What a DUMP! The steaks were tough and
the server just said 'Sorry about that.' No offer to fix it or replace them - NOTHING. The drinks are watered down too. This place might have been nice back when Jake owned it, but it is a REAL DUMP now. Save your money. (The double reviews from Insider Guru and Insider Expert must be from Jakes insiders because they don't reflect the truth about this leather-steak-serving joint).
We recommend Legends on Hwy 99 - EXCELLENT Prime Rib for $8.99 during Happy Hour - even at their regular price of $14.99 it is well worth the money. The ONE time we got a bad steak at Legends, they REPLACED IT IMMEDIATELY no questions asked. And, their drink prices are MUCH LOWER, and their drinks MUCH STRONGER than Jake's.
STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE! I went in
Wednesday night for a beer on my way home from work. I had two bills in my pocket, a $100 and a $50. I took out the $50, bought a bottle of IPA for $3.50, tipped the brunette bartender $1.50, stuffing the change into my pocket. I finished my beer and went home. As I emptied my pockets getting ready for bed, I discovered only a $100, a $10, and a $5 - she had given me change for a $20, not a $50! I called their manager, Connie, the next day and she rudely told me the bartender was short $9, not over by $30. Having owned a bar before, I told her that the bartender either pocketed my $30, or mistakenly gave my change to another customer. She didn't even offer to make it right. Connie claimed that she would look into it and call me back. After giving her almost a week, I called back and happened to talk to the bartender that short changed me. She said she remembered me, and assured me that she had not taken my money. She said she remembered the $50 and thought she gave me two twenties and a five - if that was true, I would not have a $10 bill in my pocket. I suggested that if she didnâ??t steal it, she must have given my change to another customer or left it in the till. She asked what to do to make it right. I told her that when I owned a bar, my policy was always to take care of the customer and she agreed, offering to refund my $30 in the interest of goodwill. I believe the bartender did not steal the money and was sincere in her willingness to make it right.
Apparently, Connie was listening to the conversation and said, â??if he wants to come and get his $30 back, tell him I never want to see him in this bar again.â?? Hearing that, I told the bartender to tell Connie to just keep the thirty bucks. I assured her that I wonâ??t be back, and that I will advise everyone I know or meet to stay away from this place. (Iâ??m in real estate so I meet ALOT of people in this neighborhood every day.) Connieâ??s stupid decision already cost the owners much more than $30 â?? I easily spend more than that in one evening. I told the bartender that in my opinion this Connie, with her garbage-mouth attitude, is an idiot and making a huge business mistake. Now that I think about it, the thieves we caught in my bar always got belligerent when we caught them stealing too. I believe, based upon her belligerent trailer-trash response that Connie discovered the bar was $30 over, pocketed the cash, and was pissed off that she had to give it back.
Bottom line, if you are looking for a neighborhood hang out, THIS IS NOT THE PLACE TO GO BECAUSE MANAGEMENT WILL NEVER RETURN EXTRA MONEY THEY FIND IN THE TILL! I also believe that any valuables you might lose here will end up at Connieâ??s house. You can definitely find better places to play pool in Vancouver where management cares about their customers and are honest in their dealings â?? THIS IS NOT ONE OF THEM. I believe you should TELL ALL YOUR FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS TO STAY AWAY FROM JAKES in Vancouver.
