Portland >Roseway Theatre
I love the Roseway theater!. This is such a beautiful old theater, but updated with an amazing screen and sound system... I just love everything about it.
Amazing Theater. I went to the Roseway Theatre this last weekend. I didn't know what to expect, but the theater was amazing! Something I find a lot of chain theaters miss out on is the atmosphere. Well they've got it, plus an amazingly clear digital picture. I definitely will be seeing a lot of movies there!
The Secret's Out!.
We have been meaning to attend the Roseway Theater, just down the street from us, for the last five years. We finally got there today and it was a marvelous surprise. May I say, this is the first time I've walked through a movie theater without my shoes sticking to the floor? It was amazing to see the results of the recent renovation; time and money well spent. Now we need to be sure the neighborhood and surrounding city residents do a good job of supporting it. These neighborhood theaters are few and far between anymore and need to be treasured.
The sound and projection quality were as good as any. The chairs were comfortable, roomy, more than adequate drink holders and aisles wide enough can both sit comfortably, with your legs stretched out and you don't have to knock people in the back of the head as you go by them. And, the popcorn was good to the last drop.
Come one come all to enjoy this delightful city secret; please join us in letting the secret out of the bag by all means!
BEST theater in town!!!.
$6 movies, free movies on weekends for kids! Perks up the neighborhood like decades ago!!
My husband has been going here for 50 years!!! I'd love to paint a 'movie themed' mural on your wall!!!
Best Theater in PDX.
Went here for 1st time since renovation. Oh MY GOSH! Best Theater in Portland!! Technically amazing. Since I have kids I hope they run some family first run films rather then Batman and Burn After Reading...but cant really complain as nothing else is out for kids.
You must check this place out...FANTASTIC!
reviewer below is wrong on TWO counts beside having a wacked out description of the place. I have no idea what the beyond idiot below got his ideas about the roseway. to begin with, the popcorn is popped fresh daily. second of all, the childs popcorn is nowhere near four dollars. the small is 3.50. the new theater now has digital sound and image quality, air conditioning, better seating and better bathroom conditions. as for losing the "old charm," the new remodel actually restored it closer to the original in that they removed plywood covering the cieling architecture.
Say it again...this place is awesome. Anyone who can find something bad about this place needs their head examined. makes no sense...they are super nice people, great for the neighborhood, have great pricing and the best technology around. And the popcorn is popped fresh daily!
Remodel ruins cool old theater. This theater USED TO BE super cool with old photos and great charm. The renovation was crappy at best and the old cool charm that this theater used to have is gone. All of the great old posters and black and white stills are gone and it just is not near as cool as it used to be. I went to a movie there last night first one there since the "remodel" and I am never going back. You know what the kicker was? The kid size popcorn, which was $4.00 was scooped out of an old popcorn machine, problem is- get this, this place doesn't even pop it's own popcorn! They pour it out of a giant bag into the old machine and ACT like they are giving you theater popcorn like you are used to. TOTAL SHAM! Even the Walmart of theaters, at the multiplex makes it's own popcorn! You want a real movie theater-Go to the Hollywood or the Moreland, they are old school and rock!
A great update to a our neighborhood.
I went to the 'old' Roseway Theater before it was renovated and found it charming but very shabby and, in the summer, stiflingly hot.
The 'new' theater is a wonderful improvement. The sound is excellent, the seats very comfortable, the air conditioning made it cool and inviting and there's more leg room than I think I've seen anywhere else. The new owner has put a lot of work into bringing this old gem back to life, including revealing and retouching the original stencils on the walls.
Overall there is rather a lot of beige paint going on but that's the only criticism I can add.
On the plus side, first run movies are only $6! Also, the theater seems to attract a slightly older (and therefore quieter) crowd than perhaps could be found at Lloyd center most nights.
A Real Improvement. We love new Roseway! The seats are far more comfortable, the decor is such an improvement, and the overall atmosphere is excellent. We can't wait to go again.
