AWFUL Customer Service. For me, the first phone call to a business is a deal-maker or deal-breaker. I was treated very rudely within 30 seconds of the phone call as I was inquiring about a movie that was playing but not posted on their web site. The employee told me, "I don't have time for you. I have to go." While I understand what it means to get busy at work, I fell that any business that can't handle a one minute phone call does not deserve my money.

Historic art-deco theater hosts live concerts and shows classic, family and second-run films.. In Short
Located in Northeast Portland's Hollywood District, this 1926 landmark formerly served as a vaudeville and silent movie theater. Its intricate, showy facade and retro red sign is recalls the glamour of classic Hollywood and over the years, the venue has undergone renovations. Films at the Hollywood run the gamut from obscure flicks to second-run big-name flicks. Concerts by local and touring bands also frequently play here.

Hollywood Theatre. This cinema should be frequented by anyone who appreciates foreign and independant films, especially those films that are played no place else in the Portland area. It's downstairs main theatre is a spacious throw-back to a day gone by and has a very large screen and you can only hope the film you are seeing is in this particular cinema. The other upstair theatres are quite averge and should be renovated a bit more, but they do allow for more than just one film to play at a time.

Great theater getting better. This is the theater I grew up with in the Hollywood neighborhood. Back when I was a kid, however, the Hollywood showed crap like Encino Man and Ghostbusters 2 as a double feature for $1.50. There were usually a dozen kids or so rioting in the first row all throughout the film, spitting on the floor and throwing popcorn. There was also a sizeable hole in the men's bathroom, from which you could see the street.

Thankfully, times have changed and the theater has been restored. It's now a classy art-house theater--and still cheaper than a matinee at a first-run Regal house.
