In Short – OMSI's permanent and traveling exhibits feature presentations on topics from computers and genetics to natural history and astronomy. OMSI takes a hands-on approach to exhibits: Children are encouraged to interact with displays and learn from experience. The very young can kill time in the children's room, where they can play games and visit with the resident rodents and reptiles. The popular Omnimax theater features special Imax films projected onto a large domed screen.
OMSI brings out the kid in all of us
by MrPDX
My first trip to OMSI was a school sleepover, 15 years ago. When I was in college I volunteered around the museum teaching people of all ages and demonstrating science to them. I love everything about OMSI - it reminds me that there is a kid in all of us desiring to learn as much as we can about the world around us. Whether it be physics, chemistry, biology, human development, technology, industry, etc., the INTERACTIVE HANDS ON exhibits inspire and help me learn by doing and make difficult or abstract concepts easy to learn and understand.
WHeelchair Access
by oregonwheels
We struggled with the issue of Wheelchair access. While everything was listed as "accessible" the person in the chair could rarely interact with displays. OMSI does not allow a discount for attendants to enter with a disabled person, making it even more expensive.
The things that were accessible were wonderful, but the Childrens area is lacking greatly in access. We will return because my daughter did enjoy the things we could do, buit as she gets bigger we will drop our pass because there is not enough she can reach on her own.
- Pros: Kids play/interactive area
- Cons: Poor wheelchair access
It's a great experience

OMSI is a great learning experience...especially if you have kids. I used to visit OMSI all the time when I was little with my classes and my parents. A few months ago when I visited, I still found it to be interesting. They also have lectures, which are geared more towards adults. The OMSI-MAX has always been a safe bet..they always have good movies.
- Pros: Great museum, IMAX
