In Short – Dog Mountain is a steep, challenging hike for all but the most experienced and hardy day-hikers, but the payoff is worth the work it takes to get there. About halfway up the 3-mile climb, the trail forks. A left-hand path is steeper and less scenic, but a faster trip to the summit. The right-hand trail offers more to see (the trails join later on). The last mile to the summit, from the lower viewpoint, is especially steep and narrow.

The views from the top are spectacular that is if you are looking at the Gorge(I don't look too much at the flowers)!!! The hike is grueling but when I got to the top I felt a great accomplishment. It is very steep!!
Steep, crowded, put overall a nice hike.

I won't say that it's the best hike in the gorge, but it's nice. Best in spring when the wild flowers are out, or during the week when there are less people there. I recommended coming down the back side (Augsburger Mnt Trail) to save your knees some punishment.
