Editorial Review for Laurelhurst Park – by Otis Rubottom

In Short
Despite its location along busy Southeast 39th Street, Laurelhurst Park is surprisingly serene. With a tree canopy blocking much of the traffic noise, the interior ofthe park is defined by a large pond, complete with cruising ducks and turtles. The walking paths that snake through the landscape make for great wandering, with plenty of benches and nooks to drop down on for a moment of repose, or perhaps some lunch.

This was such a pleasant surprise! Today was our first trip --- but not our last. We had a picnic lunch at another park (Powell Butte) and was very disappointed. So after lunch, when we wanted to enjoy a walk, we drove to Laurelhurst --- we heard about both from this web site.

Pros: Good Parking, Beautiful Scenery, Calm and Peaceful

I really enjoy walking through Laurelhurst park. I live right down the street and frequently use the park as a meeting place, for jogging, or just taking a good book down and laying in the grass under a big shady tree (which are abundant). The park is laid out in a way that makes for alot of private places to snuggle, or nap. The pond is also really neat. There are ducks, a goose, turtles complete with their own floaty log and squirrels all over that love to beg for peanuts. My only complaint is that there are alot of careless people throwing their trach into the pond. :(

Pros: Quiet, Private, Pond/ animals

Cons: Junkies/Bums, trash in pond
