As quirky-romantic destinations go, there’s nothing quite like a three-hour meal at this curious Belmont Thai hidey-hole run entirely by a husband-wife team who’ve still managed to stay together even after owning a restaurant together for years.

Fantastic homestyle thai from a husband-and-wife team, but be prepared to wait. I love the mint and apples in the salad rolls, and the soups are among the best in town.
User review by jthaskin. I lived in Portland during college, found this place my freshman year and used it as my go-to for every special occasion for the following 4 years. Yes, the service is slow - but with only one server, that's not surprising. John (the waiter) quickly had my standard order memorized, and for my final meal there before moving away, Khun Pic came out, we all talked, and they ended up refusing payment for my meal. Go - precisely because the service is slow, and the ambience is amazing, and the food is delicious. Spend one evening making an evening of a meal.
delicious thai food. It is absolutely delicious thai food i'm so serious! I mean the flavor the aroma the mouth watering taste! It is that good!
Exceptional food and wait.... We arrived at 7:30 on a tuesday night, and had to wait for at least 10 minutes to recieve menus and water...aside from the only server being slammed, once he caught up to us, he was gracious, attentive and hospitable...the food was prepared quick enough as we were the last table seated....flavors are powerful and redolent of lemongrass, where i normally dine...vegetables were dramatically fresh as it seemed they were grown that day for the purpose of being used in this dish...i've never had brussel sprouts in thai food...all in all worht the wait if you're not famished...
The best atmosphere and food!. We arrived with 8 people and the server Khun Pic's husband graciously seated us and was always helpful and smiling. The salad rolls were fabulous! One order for 4 people isn't enough so we ordered 6 just so we wouldn't have to share. The Tom Ka was superb as well as the Pad Thai. Khun Pic is a fabulous chef and I will go there again and again. The atmosphere did make me feel warm and happily invited. It does take a long time but come on, its a two man show. Its worth the wait.
Best Thai Food since Thailand..
This is the refrain from friends who have been to Thailand; I've gotten used to hearing it.
Kuhn Pic is a very special place run by an incredible couple who rebuilt the house first and then built a tremendous following by the relentlessly sublime tastes emanating from the kitchen. You have to look for it the first time, it's snuggled in behind a wonderful garden arch lush with greenery and the best of the season. Once you walk through your evening is already en route to being transformed. Don't expect the norm. Celebrate where you are. It will be magic.
Enjoyable environment and food. Thanks for the heads-up on the slow serving - we were prepared when we went on a Friday evening and it took quite some time. But the wait gave us plenty of time to enjoy the lush green romantic patio. After a long wait, the food was especially delicious - their special that night was cat fish in a sweet and sour sauce and it was very yummy. Friendly service.
By far the best!. Plan to take your time. This isn't a fast place to dine.
Delicious, charming, unique. I took 3 out-of-town guests here on a recommendation and we had a fabulous meal. There were only a few other diners so it's possible that I didn't get a true feel for the "slowness" that this restaurant is known for. It was so personal, homey and the food was delicious. Can't wait to go back.
More than worth the wait. It's true that the service can be excruciatingly slow. Sometimes you'll be lucky with it, sometimes you won't. If you can deal with that, go! The owners are friendly and sweet people. Their menu is small, but everything on it is exceptiona. Their pad kee mao (drunken noodles) and pad thai are the best I have ever tasted, period, and that includes those made by the owner's sister's restaurant, the equally-fabled Lemongrass. If you don't mind possibly having to wait a long time in a lovely setting, this is the best Thai food you'll get in Portland. Try the salad rolls -- the bit of crispy apple in there along with the mint and fried tofu is amazing with their peanut sauce. I recommend the pad kee mao with chicken or the pad thai with shrimp or chicken. The fried rice is delicious, and her curries are wonderful.
Best Thai when you have the time. I would like to delete my review but Citysearch will not let me so I am replacing my review with this.
