Excellent food and service. This is the best place for Tempura in Portland. Not Greasy... I love it. Clean, good service and very fresh tasting food. We go here all the time.
Northwest Portland's affordable sushi favorite ventures onto Hawthorne Boulevard, to the benefit of eastside fans..
In Short
Located in a bland new building in SE Portland, this eatery is less charming than its parent restaurant in an old Victorian house off Northwest 23rd. Tables are tightly crammed into a mirror-filled room that isalways packed. However, the ultra-fresh sushi is still complemented by creative small plates and Japanese entrees. Rolls include the Dragon roll with spicy tuna, freshwater eel and avocado, and the abundant Sonny #2--a warm rice ball with salmon, spicy tuna and spicy mayo.
BEST SUSHI EVER!. Mio Sushi is the best sushi ever! Im not just saying that, I have tried SOOOO many sushi places, in many states. I live in Seattle at the moment and I, nor my husband, can not find a place that compares. Not only is it the BEST tasting with the most creative, yummy, rolls it is also so cheap! If you dont like sushi, their noodle bowls are to die for! I have been to every Mio Sushi location in Portland/Beaverton and they ALL are fabulous. We used to go once a week at least and now we can only go when we visit Portland....I hope we move back soon! The service at all are great.
Fresh,fresh,fresh! and still fresh!.
I loved it the second I walked in. I was made to wait a while but I did so knowing that the smells emanating so sweet and fresh would soon be sitting, pleasantly in my tummy. What a wonderful suprise. The fish is fresh and the veggies so crisp with little to debate when the price for this delicately thought out sishi experience is taken into consideration. I have returned many times and each time I leave a satisfied fat clam.
Any criticism is that many of the patrons see fit to bring their loud offspring along for the ride and they tend to let them scream through each of my tenderly taken bites of blissfully succulent sashimi. Still this is no real fault of the staff. And if I must say so I had to eat at the sushi bar last time and the chefs smiled with pride as I was handed and then ate the freshness on my plate. Eat on dear readers and enjoy for this is a little slice of fresh, affordable heaven.Yes it is a good place!
Horrible Service. I would never go back to this place. Not only was it very slow, we actually had our waitress come after us outside the restaurant to ask us for a bigger tip!! She stood there pretty much demanding that we give her a bigger tip, since the check was for over 100. However, she only came to us twice, and both times forgot things we asked for. She was rude and didn't care about her customers, only that she was working. I will never step in this place again. I suggest going some place else for sushi. Or make it yourself!
i don't get it.. why does everyone rave about this place? the fish sits in the case, presliced, and they throw it on a slab of bland rice with no wasabi. it wasn't terrbile but sushi is about the experience; ambiance, preparation, artistry, service, etc... mio offers none of those things.
Mama Mio, No!. I love sushi. But, unfortunately there is much better sushi in Portland than what I experienced at Mio sushi on Hawthorne. I ordered a sushi combo plate and was very disappointed. The sushi was average at best and defintitely not worth the price I paid. I was anticiapting some really good sushi for the long wait but it just wasn't meant to be. Perhaps, it was just a bad night. All in all, I would not recommend this restaurant if you are a sushi lover.
worst waitress ever. Well I do like the sushi & most of the servers are very friendly and wonderful. Unfortunately I will not go back again because I end up getting treated terribly many times that I go in by one server named Jennifer. She is so incredibly rude & totally ruins the experiencne. She totally ignores us, never comes back to see if we need anything, and never brings the food. I was a waitress for years so I am a very understanding & good tipping customer - I would have NEVER behaved like her - I have never experienced anything like this and hope that when she is gone that we can come back.
Mio... Don't think so!. I really want to like this place, good location, I love sushi & a nice crowd but... gosh the service is the nastiest. The waitresses look like they want to spit on you instead of taking your order. The atmosphere is thus negative & also the harsh lighting & immense noise don't help. Sitting near the cold windy doorway there are always people waiting, one time including a seriously pregnant lady which just made us feel guilty to hurry & clear off our table. The "Crunch" roll deserves kudos but otherwise this place simply sucks - there are plenty of better Sushi restaurants that deserve credit & roll a tastier Maki.
Great deal. This is good sushi at a great price. We recommend carry-out since it's fast and the ambiance in the restaurant is only so-so. Not many places you can eat as much as you want and not feel like you're ruining your health or your bank account.
