Awesome Child Care!. Great child care! I find the staff very friendly and attentive to all my and my son's needs. I love how clean the center is and how close to the MAX. Best of all is the Creative Curriculum they use. It isn't just day care, it's Child Development. I also love the signing for babies and Spanish instruction.…
Do not send your children to any Grandma's Place.
I decided to enroll my two children at Grandma's Place because it was near my work and seemed to be a warm environment for learning. In short, I was wrong.
My daughters, age 2 and 4 were there for about 2 months, and that was two months too long. My oldest daughter came home with a huge bump on her forehead and then later a black eye. For the latter, the teacher actually told me that he "hadn't been watching". At that point, we decided to move them to a different daycare, but had to continue until our month was up. In the subsequent two weeks, my youngest child received a series of 4 terrible bites from another child. The final straw was the day when I came to pick the girls up from school, was notified the the 2 year old was on a walk around the complex, I decided to find her. A short walk around the corner and there were the children, in a stroller parked next to a park bench near the entrance to 84. The teacher was just standing there. As I came to retrieve my daughter, I noticed that the children were right next to a woman sitting at the parking bench smoking. NOT OK!
I removed the kids immediately. Moral of story, unless you want your kids, bitten or knocked about while the teacher isn't paying attention or you want them to go on walks to look at the freeway entrance and experience second-hand smoke, I would suggest that you seek childcare elsewhere.…
A Great and Affordable Daycare Option. Our daughter has been going to Grandma's Place on Hoyt for almost a year now. She really enjoys it and loves the staff. Welove that they are open early and a little later than most daycares. I can work a typical 8-5 job and not have to stress about "am I going to make it in time" if they closed at 5:30 pm or even 6 pm. Especially, if evening traffic is a little ugly. My husband and I like that the class sizes are small, and more importantly, that there isn't a television to be found in the facility. We haven't had a problem with the curriculm and our daughter always has a ton of art projects to bring home each week. Parent participation is encouraged, especially for field trips or special in-school activity days. There has been some staff turnover, but that is to be expected. Overall, the majority of the staff have been there for some time since we've been going and we feel very comfortable with them and our daughter knows and is comfortable (attached) to them, too. Good communication between staff and parents, especially when there have been behavioral issues (our daughter a while back learned a four-letter word that starts with F and ends in K from a classmate) and the Director and staff were more than supportive in working with us to nip that in the bud in a positive way. Parking can be difficult, especially in the morning at peak drop off times and in the evenings, but you can easily find a spot to pull up to in the complex, turn on your flashers and get in and out of the facility. They are also very affordable compared to most of the other daycare centers in Portland. We also love that they are a year round school that just mainly observes major holidays. Finally, when we had all that snow, the staff would call us if they could get to the school to let us know they were there so if we wanted to drop off our daughter because we had to get to work, we could. Also, a good cultural diversity among the students and staff.…
Last posted response.. the Hoyt location has no school age...maybe a different location. I have had my grandson at Grandma's Place for over a year now . He enjoys going to class everyday . His teachers are friendly and helpful. I really like the location . The staff are educated and happy to be working there . We always attend the family functions and have alot of fun . The Director and Assistant Director really know what they are doing!. I would consider the staff there part of our extended family.…
No supervision while on outings. I went to Washington Park's playground today and there was a bunch of kids running around from Grandma's Place. How do I know they were from Grandma's Place? They all had colored t-shirts that said Grandma's Place. The staff sat together and looked like they could care less about their jobs or the kids. Kids were playing in the sandbox and calling for their teacher which whom ignored them and was too far away to see what was going on. They were throwing sand and one kid got sand in his eyes. As a mother, I would NOT recommend this place. First impressions are everything!!!…
