Tips for Trade Up Music

August 03, 2011

Don't expect customer service. So we went in to buy our son a saxophone and talked to the sales guy. He said they had one that was in good shape, was a good sax and it hadn't been in the shop for very long. Well, we got it home and it didn't work right. We took it back and they said their service guy would fix it. We got it back and it still didn't work right. Well this time they blamed us for the problem. Come to find out, this insturment had been in the store for well over a year and we were informed that rather than a good sax, it was really a lower quality sax. More knowledgeable players have passed on that sax for over a year and once they saw a chance to stick us with it, they took it. We said that since the thing never worked, we just wanted our money back. But no, we would have to pay for the repairs if we wanted our money back because they blamed us for the problem. They didn't blame us the first time, but they blamed us the second time, pretty classless move. Since this incident, I did some research and found something interesting. You can buy a brand new instrument at Amazon for the same price or LESS than a used piece of gear from Trade Up. Save yourself the headache, buy from Amazon. At least if there is a problem, they are so dedicated to their customers that they will make it right. Once Trade Up has your money, they couldn't care less about you. Have you ever been dismissed with "You'll just have to take it or leave it. I'm not going to talk about this anymore" and been waved away? I have, and it happened at Trade Up Music on Division. I'll let you decide if you want to take a chance with a business like that
