relaxing. Very nice bookstore. I usually prefer Powell's or Barnes & Noble, but this Borders is much closer to where I live. It has a very nice atmosphere, very friendly employees. I can easily spend hours there in a book.
Shop for books, music and more in a warm, relaxing and customer-friendly environment..
In Short
Originating in Ann Arbor, Mich., in 1971, this international bookstore chain is known for its vast selection of books, movies and music, as well as a comfortable atmosphere. Cozy chairs, scattered tables and music listening stations invite customers to explore and stay awhile. Book and music selections are tailored to the community, giving the shop a local feel. The knowledgeable staff and Title Sleuth inventory computer stations aid inquisitive shoppers.
An Ugly Experience.
I usually only write nice reviews, but once and a while something happens where you just have to say something about it. I had a really ugly experience at the Seattle's Best cafe at the Gresham Borders. Being in customer service myself, I am reluctant to complain unless the barista's behavior is really out of line. It was.
My mom and I ordered a drink that they were apparently out of. No problem. The barista said that they would be getting the ingredients in the next day. Again, no problem. I said, "We won't be here tomorrow."
The barista responded "that's okay" with a tone that implied "Good riddance, I'm glad." Then she blew us off as we were still standing there at the counter by asking the man behind us what he would like.
It was just incredibly ugly all around. I guess you had to be there to pick up on the tone, but I really wanted to say something about it. Portland is such a friendly area that when someone is that hateful, it really sticks out.
The whole incident took place around 1:15 on Sunday August 17th. You might want to avoid this place on Sundays if that barista is working. She really should not be doing any type of customer service. A very scary person....
