REALLY AWFUL FOOD AND SERVICE!!! We eat at many Mexican restaurants and this place was really bad. My Carne Asada was dry and tasteless. I ordered a glass of wine and it came in a very small glass and only HALF full?? About 3 sips is all and about 4 bucks. What an insult! Our waitress was so bored and so rude. I guess if I were starving to death on Survivor Island, I'd be happy to have their food, but otherwise, there are MANY great Mexican restaurants in the area. Avoid this one!
Forget the rude tall waitress or the
watery bean dip, it's the little hidden things that piss me off. They have a great Spanish sauce for their Spanish burrito. If you get the burrito by itself, it is swimming in sauce. But if you get the beans and rice upgrade for an additional cost, they KEEP all that delicious Spanish sauce. It seems the beans and rice now crowd the plate, so they give you only a very small portion of sauce and mostly on the ends for plating purposes. If you complain, she will tell you that it is on the top underneath the lettuce and tomato. But it is not. I pulled it back to show here. Oh, and about pulling back the lettuce and tomato; I did NOT say guacamole even though the plate comes with it, because if you ask for NO sour cream, that obviously means NO guacamole either. There is no melted cheese on top either, as the description says. They think you won't know because they put lettuce and tomato on top.
But, if you ask for more sauce anyway, they'll bring it - and charge you 75 cents for it. That's right - get the upgrade for more money, and get less of what the dish originally came with! Ask to make it the way it should, and it COSTS!
Also, they will ask you if you want more salsa with the chips they bring. Say no. It's a trap! That's now 75 cents more as well.
The prices go up and you get less food, and everything is an add on. If you want a substitution - even though omit certain things - it's an addition. I did not want the more expensive sour cream once and asked for some onions instead - 75 cents.
So now if you want a single item combo of a taco with beans and rice, it's almost 8 bucks.
Now, if you want a taco a la carte, and a side of beans and rice, it's about $5.75 for the half order of beans and rice since a full order each of beans and rice is about 3 bucks each. That's a lot of food though. So, a la carte taco, and a half order each of beans and rice equal about $5.75. NO PROBLEM! The waitress even asks you if it is a la carte, and there is NO PROBLEM!
The problem is, however, when they bring you a check for the 8 dollar combo. You ask them to fix it, and you get an argument. She knew then when we ordered what we were ordering. It was fixed, sure, but this is not the first and only time this sort of thing happens.
There is some sort of money gouging going on each and every time I visit that restaurant. The heavy set waiter said it was new owners/management, and they did change their name to just "Tapatio", but come on now! They're losing an entire family of customers who frequent the establishment often due to location. But, those little hidden "gotcha" add-ons, and having to check your ticket, to getting LESS food now especially when paying for an UPGRADE (you would think you would get the same PLUS the addition), the tall waitress' rude attitude, and having to argue over the ticket is just not worth it.
Never ever ever EVER does this happen EVER anywhere EVER! I can only think that this business is really hurting, and trying to stay afloat, and they do it by dishonest business dealings.
It's too bad too, because that Spanish sauce is delicious.
