Great Healthy Food!. My family eats at the restaurant at least once a week. The Pho is fantastic, a favorite, during those cold and rainy months. This summer we have been trying different things and they are all great.
It's all about the PHO. This place is excellent. I eat there at least once a week and as of yet I haven't had anything less than a great meal. The Pho is ridiculous and has one of the best broths I've found. The owner is a bit rough around the edges but once you've been there a few times he's a bit easier to take. If you are looking to have a staff dote on you and kiss your butt I recommend going somewhere else, but if you want some good food at a reasonable price check it out.
The Pho King Master of Bad Service. I don't go here anymore. I used to go a few times a month with some friends I work with. The pho is usually pretty good and the prices reasonable, but the owner/operator is ridiculously rude. He just grunts at the customers. I eventually found a way to see it as endearing because I loved having a pho fix so close to my work, but last time I was there I asked for a small to-go container so I could take the remainder of my broth and noodles home for my baby daughter (who also loves the pho). He said he'd have to charge me. I laughed. Then I realized he was serious. Apparently, this joker would rather lose my $25 a month than give me an $.06 container. Good math, guy.
The most outrageously bad service I have ever received in any restaurant, anywhere..
I can't even comment on the food because we left before eating due to the outrageously bad service. From the moment we walked in, the service was indifferent to the point of rudeness--grunting and pointing to the tables was the way we were told to sit anywhere we liked, being spoken to as if we were stupid when we had to ask the waiter to repeat something (I don't care if you are from Viet Nam or Venus: if you mumble, people are not going to hear you or understand you. There's no need to get huffy about it)--but we just went with it because we had heard the food was good.
We ordered an appetizer of vegetable spring rolls to share, but when they came out they were on one plate. After slamming them down on the table, he realized we needed silverware, so he went to get it. When he came back, my husband politely ordered some hot tea and asked for an extra plate. The waiter went and got another plate, put it on the table, then PICKED UP ONE OF THE SPRING ROLLS WITH HIS BARE HANDS and plopped it on the new plate. I gasped audibly. He says "what?" and my husband, who is too nice for his own good, says "nothing, it's okay" and the guy walks away, but continues to glare at me. I said quietly to my husband that I didn't want to eat here anymore and the waiter comes back over, grabs the plates and says very loudly, "You don't have to eat here!" and takes the food away. We promptly left. We will NEVER go back, and I will tell this story to everyone I know. Thanks for reading.
Excellent Vietnamese Food in Lake Oswego. Give this place a shot; you will be pleasantly surprised. If you live in the area, and want quality food, go for it. I really like the brisket Pho and the curry chicken. This place is a price performer and delicious too.
This used to be a great restaurant under the previous owner. It has steadily gone downhill. The quality of the ingredients has changed. Yesterday I bought salad rolls that I just threw away because the shrimp smelled bad. The counter person (owner?) was outrageously rude even more than before.
It's too bad. We used to eat at this restaurant at least once a month. This used to be a family favorite.
OK but nothing special.
We were the first ones in that evening and were seated promptly and received our food promptly, but then the restaurant filled up and service kind of ground to a halt. We were never brought our ticket at the end and had to walk to the front of the restaurant to indicate we wanted to leave. It looks like a one-person operation so maybe they need a second person to help with the check-out process.
Food was average for a Vietnamese place. Nothing special - but I'd probably get take-out from there if I was in the neighborhood.
Undiscovered gem in Lake Oswego area.
I have eaten Pho all across the country and can tell you that Lavang is as good as it gets. If you are looking for something healthy, delicious, and inexpensive, you MUST eat here. How can you eat at chain places when this place exists. If you have not tried Vietnamese food yet and live anywhere in the area, try it! The world needs more places like this...
Great food........ I have not been to the new place yet. But if they continue with the same quality and service as before I am sure they will do well. Pho is unlike any other soup. It is the best cold remedy as well. Don't pass this up. Take a chance and try their food.
This place is PHO delicious. We discovered this place a year ago and have eaten there about 50 times since. I'm totally addicted to this food. The service is great (they know my voice on the phone even). The food is divine. The ambiance is terrible. Lucky for us they are moving 2 doors down to a bigger space in June 2005. This place is a MUST try.
