Terrible, indifferent haircuts. After impulsively deciding to get a haircut and my regular stylist (James at the Pearl Bishops- excellent) being unavailable, I decided to take my chances at the Hawthorne Bishops. After listening to the stylists complain about how bored they were one reluctantly strolled over and sat me down for a cut. I had long hair, and just wanted a basic trim and a few long layers, which I explained to Jess (Jessica?). She proceeded to whack most of my hair off, giving me short ear-length layers and tapering the ends so badly I now have almost no hair left. Needless to say, I'll now be rocking a short ponytail until this terrible "style" grows out. In short, the stylists acted rude and unprofessional, and Jessica clearly doesn't know how to listen or give a decent cut. Stay away.

Great haircut and service. I've been going to the the Bishops on Hawthorne for many years and have always had great hair cuts and service. Since they do not take appointments and it's on a first come first serve basis, they always have told me a fairly accurate wait time. This is why I always come back. I always ask for Katie, Michael or Jessica when I'm there but if they aren't available, I get a great haircut from any one else!

Worst Experience. Customer Service 101- FAIL. I'm pretty tolerant of hipster service oriented places and this place is intolerable. First I walk in and the place is brimming with indifference which I get is their whole selling point, and yet when it gets to the point where you are disapproving of the customer herself in order to solicite some sort of 'come hither' elitist technique of selling, you fail big time.

I am a girly girl, not getting steps or a faux mullet because I'm a grown adult with a real job. I went in with a simple request.: just a trim, roll brush it out and throw a couple curls in there. The guy with the questionable sexuality gave me a cross eyed glance, and said, "With a curling iron?" I figured, unless he had some sort of magic touch, yeah it'd have to be an iron of some sort. He told me that they don't do that. I said fine, I can do it myself. I'll just get a hair cut. He combed out my hair which is long, from the top and was yanking on my hair like a bad boyfriend when I asked him why he wasn't shampooing me first. Evidently, despite the cheap beer everything is high brow a la cart. Astonishing. Ok, can I please get a shampoo, a conditioner, a cut, a blow dry and a style. I don't care what it costs, I'm a walk in, just do it.

He went on to tell me that the style I wanted was "weird" and when I tried to drop it, repeated that it would look "weird" and then stared me down when I, defeated, said "Fine" and smiled. I realized that I didn't want this guy anywhere near my hair, took his al a cart cape off my cavier neck and went down the street to Cutting Crew and got real with the barber who knew all about a little band called Fear. Now that's real. Suck it Bishops.

Couldn't Be Better. I love Hawthorne Bishops, I have never gotten a haircut that I haven't been impressed with, free beer and despite what some of the reviews say I have always found the staff to be fun and friendly, and have only seen the same attitude towards other customers. I have a feeling that some people just assume that the staff feel that they're too "hip" and make judgments off of that assumption. Leila, the stylist I always go to has remembered me ever since I started coming in and all I have to do is give her a general idea of the direction I want to go in and she never disappoints, she gets to know you and what you like and cuts your hair accordingly. You rock Leila! Get your hair cut here. Great cuts, great prices, cool people.

Great Stylists, Great Style. I love getting everything I want/need in the Hawthorne District and Bishop's is the icing on my neighborhood cake. Katie took especially good care of me and made special product considerations for my hair needs.

The staff are personable with their customers and you can tell they have a great time doing their job. I wish there was more of that in the world. I recommend Bishop's for just about everything: a trim, precision cut and full-on color.
