Don't waste your time..... Unfortunately, this bakery is a disappointment. It is not the food that is the problem...it is the snooty staff that acts like they are doing you a favor when they serve you. It creates an air of unfriendliness and I will not be back. Plus, the sandwich we ordered....a half sandwich that is...was so small that it was only a few bites!! It was $8, which is about $4 over what it should be. I do not care for phony keep up with the jones' NW PDX types. It is Portland not Paris.  View Less View More

Excellent bread, great pastries, enjoy the staff. This place is everything I love about Portland. It has funky staff, that are fun to talk to if you are around in late afternoon when they have time to breathe. From the tables you can watch the action as they bake away. There is a variety of bread from hearty and crusty to soft and chewy...something for everyone. Everyone of the pastries are awesome. The coffee is good, as well, from a local roaster. As I sit back and watch the people come and go, most have coffee and pastry in hand. My goodness, try a loaf of bread! The soups and sandwiches are good as well.

I read some of the comments in other posts (although they are a little dated) and it didn't seem like the same place. I think one is referring to the pizza location on the East side. This location only serves pizza on Monday evenings, and it's a pretty quaint, exclusively neighborhood experience on Mondays.  View Less

good food, bad service. Love the food, hate the workers, they've never been outlandishly rude, just not friendly or polite. The area is cramped but in the summer the windows are raised and its awesome. I've noticed that if I go in there in a less busy time, the staff is more enjoyable, along with the whole experience.  View Less View More

Used to be better. About a year and a half ago, there was some staff turnover at Ken's on NW 21st. The staff in general is not very friendly, but it was worth it for the food. My friend and I went to Ken's for about one year nearly two or three times a week. Now we hardly ever go. The Oregon croissants, for example, don't taste the same. Either they are overcooked (just had one that was slightly charred) or undercooked. We thought after so many months, the new staff would be better trained. Not so. After many dollars spent, we'll take our patronage elsewhere. Sorry, Ken's, we loved you once, but no more!  View Less View More
