Editorial Review for Navarre – by Citysearch Editors
In Short
The bare-bones industrial space is coolly outfitted with polished cement floors, plywood tabletops and Nelson Bubble Lamps; the clientele is highbrow and hip. Standout dishes include a sinfully greasy terrine of ham, potato and cheese; a subtly spiced salad of baby French lentils and tender, diced beets and a succulent side of albacore tuna, baked with a sweet saute of fresh tomatoes and soft onions. Diners happily nosh on nibbles like chestnuts and pumpkin fritters.

Insider Tips
What to DrinkThe wine list is sophisticated and every selection is available by the glass, quarter carafe, half carafe or bottle.
Know Before You GoDesserts are actually drinks paired with tiny tastes of chocolate, cookie or cheese. You're simply supposed to know that Beaume de Venice and Banyuls come in a glass.
Look GoodIt's like ordering sushi: On the chit, check the dishes you want. If you're still hungry, request another and repeat the process. Dishes are small and cheap, so experiment.

Pros: Small Portions, Smaller Price. French Bistro style menu. Cons: Hard to Read Hand-writing STANDARD menu, Printed Special Menu, Does that make any sense? Taste is, ehh..okay. Leaves you hungry after $30 bill. The feel of the place really doesn't draw customers in, the lighting/the space/the staff, etc. It's small, dark, and unfriendly. The fact you don't have much 1:1 time with your server, makes ordering frustrating...one can only ask so many questions before feeling like a French food dunce. Beware of the overly simple menu. Very little ingredients, very little WoW/Yum.
Pros: French food fix, Off Burnside, next to Starbucks/Whole Foods for food/drink afterwards..
Cons: Little to no Wow/Yum feeling from menu, Staff comas, Uninviting feeling

I don't usually feel the need to post a negative review, but this time i do. I have never been to Navarre for dinner, and will give it a try, but just came from brunch there and will never do that again. We were seated quickly and the waitress was pleasant but that's where the positive ends for me. I found the whole meal to be pretentious. You write your own order down and get your own coffee. All the waitress did was pour our water and bring us our food. and the food? i have a sick feeling in my stomach even thinking about it. the crab cakes on the benedict were kind of fishy, the pain d'espice was hard and had a strange taste to it, the "french butter" we paid a dollar for had pieces of a wrapper and tasted like it'd been in the fridge too long. the potato terrine was the best part of the meal- good flavor. i'm so disappointed! i really wanted it to be good, but ended up feeling like we paid way too much for what it was, and didn't even like it.
