best Indian in Portland
by jbattan
I've tried most of the Indian places in town, and this one is my favorite by far. I've been going there a few times a month for the past four years. The food is fresh and delicious. It's very clean and the buffet is kept well stocked (except the lamb dish is usually without any lamb in it; it's so good that people like me skim out the lamb and leave the sauce and potatoes behind). The service is efficient. Parking can be a pain. The spices are mild, which I like. There are condiments to spice it up if you want.
- Pros: food, service, cleanliness
- Cons: parking

I've read some less than stellar reviews and I'm here to let you know:
Lunch is buffet. Quantity over quality. The lunch entrees are served mild so everyone can eat it. You like it spicy? Quit being such a cheapskate and go for dinner. For $1-3 more, you can get something you really like. And you still get a huge portion! I always have leftovers for lunch the next day even with just one entree ordered! Its a great family business that you can feel good about supporting, the owner is very attentive, the waitress is cute and witty. They've got great choices for everyone and even in this terrible economy, the loyal regular customers keep coming back for more. It looks like a dive, but its surprisingly nice inside without spending all the profits on decor. The food is definitely quality and good value.
This place can be hard to find. They are next to the Chevron in a funky strip mall called Barbur Square. They don't advertise, so if you've been there, its either a lucky accident or word of mouth. Its a great casual date spot but you can feel okay about bringing your family too. They've got a good beer and wine selection (I stick to the Royal Challenge from India) and I'm always stuffed, so I order my dessert to go.
Me and my sweetheart recommend sharing the Chicken Makhani and the Navratan Korma with a side of Garlic Naan. The tandoori dishes are great too. Whatever you choose, I've tried almost the whole menu and every dish has been a winner. They spice everything to your taste, so don't be afraid to try something new. They take big parties if you call ahead, but its a small place, so don't show up without a phone call first if you're more than 4 people. They also do carry out, which is nice when you're on the run.
- Pros: Easy to spot vegan items, casual atmosphere, carry out menu
- Cons: Hard to find the first time, parking is sometimes a pain.
Best Indian Food in Portland!

My best friend is Indian and I love her mother's cooking. This is the best I have found in Portland. The staff is always friendly and the food is always fresh. We get take-out about once a week from New Delhi. I highly recommend the Chicken Tikka Masala.
- Pros: Food
