Great place for breakfast, lunch, or dinner . . .
by renewbee at Citysearch
Maxwells is one of our favorite quick breakfasts or lunches - they have a great breakfast burrito, as well as a very flexible $4.05 breakfast special - 2 eggs, toast, potatoes, and bacon or sausage (I think sausage is an option). This used to be a very smoky place, we go there far more often, now that smoking is not permitted under Oregon law - we still smell good when we leave! The staff are cheerful (important - nobody wants to be served by grumps!), the food is good, the booths are comfortable, and if you wanted to watch a game, they have several sets, because they are a sports bar. This is also a popular place for small groups who like to have breakfast together, periodically.
- Pros: Cheerful staff
- Cons: No kids (perhaps not a con to some)
Been there, Done that

I have been to this place a couple of times since 2005. I don't mind the blue-collar crowd. Nor do I mind gossip. After all, this place is a pub. That said, the bar staff is attractive but the crowd this place attracts is not. The dogs are genuine Chicago Vienna Beef, but they are served by a person who apparently has molasses stuck between their butt cheeks, because the service is so slow that these famous dogs arrive anything but fresh. This place needs someone to come in and give it a complete makeover...starting with the service and ending with getting the smoke out of this place. A few happy hour or draft beer specials along with the NFL Sunday Ticket would drastically add to what is a less than memorable experience.
- Pros: pretty bartenders
- Cons: slow service...very slow
eclectic community pub
by BloggerPhi at Citysearch
A reasonable example of a community pub. Don't go if you can't tolerate smoke and blue collar patrons. So don't expect a lot of downtown-type folks to be present.
Food: good and diverse, but is very variable in quality, quantity, value.
Cost: food and drink have been going up rather appreciably, however. Even the low end beer is expensive (relatively speaking, of course.) -no longer an 'inexpensive' bar.
Wait staff: generally interesting and friendly; don't expect fancy service, however.
Clients: from early 20's to 70's. Eclectic. Generally like sports, NASCAR, and pool. Don't expect a bridge game. (But there are video poker games, of course.)
- Pros: pub food, esp. Chicago hot dogs and hamburgers
- Cons: rapidly increasing costs
