In Short – U-shaped calfskin booths with fuzzy, rain-cloud gray seatbacks and wraparound curtains deck out the modern space. A sophisticated crowd stops in for dinner, but around 10pm, tattooed and pierced masses arrive for dancing. The dinner menu is full of meat and seafood dishes, including blackened chicken, Greek swordfish skewers and hazelnut-crusted halibut. Vegetarians will enjoy the wild mushroom ravioli and the Creole mac and cheese.

Worst clubbing experience

by thepooh

I came here a couple months ago for a friend's birthday party. My friends and I were waiting in front of the line for a good 30-45 minutes, and the security guard told us its really packed in there and they are just waiting for an okay to let more people in. But obviously the security guards were picking other people from the back the line to go in. I asked why were other people allowed to go in before us, and he said they were on the VIP list. But so were we. I started to feel discriminated against because every other race was picked out of the line to go in except for mine. The birthday girl was texting us, and said there was hardly anyone inside. We decided to go to Envy instead. I vowed never to go to Aura again. But I came here for a friend's going away party a few weeks ago, and it was my worst clubbing experience. My friend who was leaving, she had a VIP package for 20+. One of my friends threw up upstairs. Then later on a security guy found me downstairs, and he accused me for throwing up and wanted me and some of my other friends standing with me to leave. I only had one drink, and I was sober. I tried explaining to them that it wasn't me, but they still wanted me to leave. They accused our entire party for being rude to their staff, roudy, and whole bunch of other BS. Its too funny cause I am the type person that anyone would least expect to be escorted out of a club. The VIP package is a joke.

This place is small, but the crowd there is a lot smaller as compared to what it was like a few years ago, so on the plus side, its harder for strangers to rub up against you or spilling drinks on you. I think the current crowd at Aura is around their 30's. The bartenders and other staff are not polite and doesn't seem to really care for your business. The drinks are expensive. The music is weak, nothing exciting, and I think my winamp program can do a better job. There are definitely better clubs in Portland with staff that will respect you. If youre planning on having an awesome night out with your friends, do NOT go to Aura, I think its more likely to ruin your night.

WORST NIGHT OF MY LIFE

by Rondawagner

So I once came to this place 2 years ago had a blast with my girls so I though its my birthday and I want to go to AURA... HAHA BIG MISTAKE. First the so called VIP packages are a big Fing joke not even worth half of what they charge. I have a group of people go before me to make sure everything was ready and then I show up with my husband and two of by best friends get told my husband can't come in his pants are to baggy - a bouncer then points to the dress code and says you have to follow that. WTF there was no dress code on the website so how the F*** are we to know? So I call my girl who is inside and say my husband can't in we are leaving mind you she has already been charged $200 for S***** and i mean S***** food (which we do get to take home, big joke). So I tell my husband and 2 friends wait here I will go get my friend inside and we will leave. She then calls me to say the club will let him in so I look back to motion them in and they are gone, the manager came out and got them. Mean while I am waiting at the door trying to find them as I then found out they could all come in. Since I can't find them I get out of line, i was the next to get in the club mind you. I thought well maybe they went to the car, nope, I call all the cell phones and no one answers. I go up to the bouncer and say I am here for a VIP party and I am the guest of honor and all my guest already in there. He says sorry VIP entry is closed get in line. I stand in line for another 20 minutes crying and angry that my party is all in there and I am standing outside alone. I finally get up to the door again right behind another couple and my friend comes out and says there you are what are you doing. I said standing in like they said I had to. By this time I am bawling and just want to F****** go home. So i get out of line and she goes back in to get everyone else. To rectify this poor horribly experience the management cant give us back the money and I still never got to get in the club or experience my so called VIP crappy package. NEVER EVER EVER GO THERE, PLEASE go to where we went after that and that was STARS CABARET - where the manager treated us like gold and a sweet cute lady helped end out night wonderfully!!!

Don't go

by 0605940

My wife and I went to celebrate our 9 th wedding anniversary. We searched the internet to find dining and dancing. We call Aura to make sure they had dancing, they said yes. Got a sitter for the kids and went. We were met by a below average server. The food was expensive for what we got. When we finished our dinner, we said that we are staying for the dancing; she (the below average server) said there was no dancing. Totally ruined our night. There are much better places to go. So if you are going to celebrate your anniversary, go some where else. BTW, I mailed a letter to Aura, one month later, no response, even though I asked for one.
