Editorial Review for Jam on Hawthorne – by Rachel Bellacera

In Short
The dining room of this neighborhood eatery features jewel-toned walls hung with spirited jazz posters and a wide-open kitchen. Locals kick back with the Sunday funnies and meander through serious scrambles and mouthwatering sweets. The Nor'wester scramble is a lively mix of cream cheese, smoked salmon, chives and juicy tomatoes. But the real star is the tender lemon ricotta pancakes drizzled with a warm blueberry sauce.

Insider Tips

Where to Sit

Two-seater picnic tables are available out front when the sun is out. On weekends, make sure to ask for these sun-worshipping spots when you put your name in for a table--they go fast.

The Extras

Don't miss the namesake berry jams, which are made fresh every couple of days.

for a place called jam you would think that they would give you more than one piece of toast!!!! WTF. come on it wouldn't break the bank. the food is super good. 3 out of the four times we went here they got my order wrong. :( one waitress in puticular always drops our check before we are even done eating!!!! this is super rude. she doesnt even ask if we want anything else! As a former server this is a BIG NO NO!!! i feel rushed everytime we go in there. once again the food is really good. but i can get better service and cheaper prices at juniors or cricket cafe.

My boyfriend took me here on a weekend because he'd gone by himself during the week and really liked it. When we arrived, there was a huge line, but we both expected that and we waited. And waited. It took us an hour and a half to be seated. Still, this wasn't really a huge deal for either of us-- it was only a slightly longer wait than one would expect for a popular breakfast place on a Saturday morning. What upset us both was that it took 15 minutes for someone to come over and take our drinks order, and 45 minutes to get our food once we ordered. The waitress seemed completely disinterested in us. One of the very few times she checked on us over that 45 minutes, she filled my boyfriend's coffee mug and completely ignored mine, and then became pretty impossible to wave over. However, Jam gets three stars because the food was delicious, and there's no way around that.

Pros: food

Cons: service, wait
