Good food, coffee, people - terrible owner.
When the owner isn't around, this place is charming, fun, and has good things to offer. When the owner is there (older lady with hearing aides) the atmosphere can be cut with a knife. She's grumpy,
impatient, and will insult customers and not think twice about it.
I had an American Express gift card which was giving the new Barrista girl some trouble, the owner came over and insisted the card didn't work b/c I had it next to a magnet (sorry lady, it worked two min earlier to pay for a MAX ticket). Then continued to insinuate that I had probably stolen the card, "you never know where people get these gift cards, probably stolen most of them". This is just one example... not to mention coffee made wrong and denied a new one, etc.
I wanted to just cancel my order, but the new girl was obviously upset and embarrassed. I work in this building and pretty much can guarantee that when the owner is around customer service will be terrible.…
Good Bagel/Dirty Hands.
So the food was great, had a bagel but I watched the same girl take my money (which btw is one of THE dirtiest things in the world-money) and then make my bagel w/those same hands.
I don't understand why places can't just use tongs or a slicer when they are touching bagels, rolls, bread, etc.
Svc was good and it wasn't too busy so that was ok but the whole no gloves thing go to me. I won't be going back cuz I can't get that outta my head. And that's a law people! Don't touch $$ and food w/o washing hands or putting on gloves or using tongs! C'MON!…
Suck Rooster Cafe. I went twice and left hungry each time. You could look at the tuna sandwich and not be able to tell there was anything between the bread. It might've had a tuna flavor to it. Staff was rude. It's one of these places that's in such a high-traffic area that they can survive just on random new peeps coming in there hoping it's good. There's no way they have many repeat customers, except for maybe their friends, if they have any.…
Black Rooster Cafe is Awful.
I started a new job near Black Rooster and COULD have become a regular customer.
The service at first was OK, I gave a tip, got an OK bagel sandwich and coffee was hot. Afterwards I asked where there restrooms were and the young man working behind the counter told me "down the hall and 3rd door on your left". There was no hallway entrance from restaurant. After a very confusing several questions about how to get to the hallway the man told me to "Just go through this door" and that was the restroom. Afterwards I said "You confused me with all the down the hall business" and he laughed "Yeah, I was just messing with you!"
I felt it was an unprofessional, awkward and weird way to treat your customer who's just left you a tip. Apparently the guy is a teenager and very immature and gets his kicks from "messing with" customers.
The food was just so-so. I won't go back, there are too many other options in that neighborhood. Too bad for them because I could have easily been a regular. NOPE!…
