Editorial Review for Daily Grill - The Westin Portland – by Ivy Manning
In Short
An expansive room with crimson walls, deep leather booths and quaint artwork lend a nostalgic '40s brasserie feel to this Los Angeles-based Grill Concepts, Inc. venture. Traveling businessmen staying at the adjacent Westin hotel eat at the bar, while locals slip into the bright dining room. Starters and bar food are the way to go here--meaty Dungeness crab cakes; smoky, grilled artichoke halves; and buttery sashimi tuna with inventive fried spinach garnish are winners.

My wife and I recently celebrated a wedding anniversary at the Daily Grill. We'd never eaten in this venue before and I waffled over this restaurant versus Morton's. I'm thrilled that I chose the Daily Grill. I had the Blackberry pork chop and was simply blown away by the size of the meal, as well as the flavor!!! Did I mention the house salads? Damn, that's a meal in itself. For dessert we shared a slice of carrot cake (calorie ALERT) garnished with whipped cream (on the side). Total bill: $87, including $13 tip. For that we got: 2 gigantic house salads, 2 glasses of wine, 2 entres, and 1 dessert. In fairness to readers of this review, I should mention that neither one of us ordered steak--that would have boosted the bill considerably. We can't wait to take our friends to the Portland Daily Grill.
Pros: excellent service, great food, huge portions
Cons: ???

I don't understand the bad reviews for The Daily Grill and I am so glad I ignored them. We were looking for a place with “classic American fare" to celebrate our anniversary and this place was spot on. We were greeted with a smile, seated promptly and all the staff that stopped by wished us a Happy Anniversary. The food was fantastic! Our meals were of the best quality, flavored just right and were hot from start to finish (not that we could finish everything with the portions as huge as they are). The wine list has a nice selection and the prices are reasonable. Our dinner for 2 was $140 with tip (2 martinis, appetizer, shared salad, a bottle of wine, 2 entrees and 2 desserts). I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a place with great food, service, and menu selection. Without a doubt, a wonderful date night restaurant that won't break the bank. You gotta try this place!!! We'll be back!!
Pros: Too many to list
Cons: Couldn't find any
