In Short – An expansive room with crimson walls, deep leather booths and quaint artwork lend a nostalgic '40s brasserie feel to this Los Angeles-based Grill Concepts, Inc. venture. Traveling businessmen staying at the adjacent Westin hotel eat at the bar, while locals slip into the bright dining room. Starters and bar food are the way to go here--meaty Dungeness crab cakes; smoky, grilled artichoke halves; and buttery sashimi tuna with inventive fried spinach garnish are winners.
Very Bad Breakfast Daily Grill Portland OR
by agh123
We were in Portland on 03/07/09 and looked forward to a great meal at the Daily in Portland. We had the worst breakfast and service we've ever experienced at a Daily. My omelette was dry and brown and the potatoes were definitely scrapped from the bottom of the pan, with odd bits of debris. Service: had to get up and find jelly that we'd requested. A very disappointing experience and we won't be as confident in our decision to dine at a Daily in the future. We travel frequently and always look for a Daily in our travels.
Thanks for making my Christmas special!!

I love this restaurant. I came in on Christmas and thank goodness they were open cause nothing else was. My husband and I stopped in for both breakfast and dinner. (We were stuck in the hotel due to snow) Breakfast was awesome although very busy. The female server explained to us that they were one of the only restaurants open in the area and due to snow were under staffed. Unless you were someone of serious impatience, the wait for food was not long. I read the other reviews and it's upsetting. Barbie was the morning manager and she came to our table because a side of bacon was misplaced. She was so nice and took the side of bacon off our bill all together even though we told her not to. (The side showed up before she even left our table).
We returned for dinner with friends. The restaurant was even busier than at breakfast. They did happen to run out of quite a few items (thankfully non of which we wanted). We were served by Ileana in the dinning room. She was so funny. We did have a bit of a wait getting into the restaurant but it was worth it. A nice young lady served us in the lobby of the hotel, so we were able to enjoy drinks with friends in front of a fireplace! it really just set the night off.
I recommend the Daily Grill with high remarks. The food is amazing (especially the Pork chop! ) Thanks for making my Christmas.
- Pros: The staff is really caring!
- Cons: ???
Worst dining experience of my life!
by LilyRebelle
We went here for breakfast on Christmas Day because almost everything else was closed and we were downtown. It was horrible. We stood there in the bar area for almost ten minutes while we waited for a hostess; the bartender and a server both ignored us until we asked for help, then told us to just keep waiting. We should have left, but eventually we were seated way back in the rear, away from everyone else except one elderly couple who were also ignored and neglected. It took half an hour for someone to even take our order; my husband had to go find a server, who offered no apology or explanation for our wait. At one point a busboy tried to take our order, and just made up a bogus answer to a question I had about the menu. We did get one cup of nasty burnt coffee while we waited.
Against our better judgement, we ordered from the overpriced menu (seriously, $13 for one burned sausage link and some dry eggs?) and waited another forty minutes for our food. When we finally found a manager to complain, she told us they were understaffed (obviously) but offered no sincere apology and insisted that she was usually complimented on her food and service. She offered us a $25 gift card, which we didn't take since we're not coming back, and comped our breakfast, so at least we didn't have to pay for it. We only saw the server for the fifteen seconds it took us to order; she never came back after that.
As we left, the hostess and bartender ignored us, and no one ever apologized for our miserable experience or the crummy food. They even had the cooks serving tables instead of cooking and it wasn't even that busy - I guess they were trying to save on staff payroll. Bad move. I could've made better food at home and eaten it faster, and without getting snide attitude and neglect on the side. We are never going back there!
- Pros: At least they had the decency to comp the ticket.
- Cons: Everything else, especially the nasty food and abysmal service.
