Excellent Food & Management. Hey, this place is awesome. I had a bad experience with a bartender at Daddy Mojo's recently, even though I was a regular at breakfast and a local. As I promised the woman I wrote negative online reviews (my first ever) and the owner got back to me same day. I dropped in today and spoke with the gentleman and he was extremely friendly and clearly cares a lot about his business. He spoke with the woman. I did not realize this was such a family establishment and regret not having taken down my bad review sooner. Good sushi and good breakfast!!

Overpriced and very bland. Sooo, i ventured out today on my lunch break to try something new and am not very happy with the results. Other than making it yourself, southern cooking is very hard to duplicate and Daddy Mojo's failed in their attemp. The hush puppies would have been OK flavorwise but were way over cookad and tasted like 2 week old fryer oil. The Gumbo portion was extremely small for the almost $12.00 price tag and with out the hot sauce I frantically searched for once returning to my office(I ordered togo, which by the way is $.50 extra per item....) was extremely lacking in flavor and crawfish tails. All in all, after waiting almost 40 minutes for my order I was very dis-appointed and will never return. Maybe they make a stiff drink................

Hate it. I live quite close to this restaurant, and I absolutly despise it. Once me and a close friend went there, and she got sick after we left.

Don't go to it for a million dollars.

If you're looking for the closest thing to a New Orleans style restaurant in PDX, this is the place.. My girlfriend and I moved up here to PDX from New Orleans after hurricane Katrina. Occasionally homesick, we tried to find a few places around here to get some southern comfort food. Of all the places we've tried, Daddy Mojo's is the closest thing to what we had back home.

The atmosphere is genuine and laidback. Neon beer signs, high ceilings, window AC units, big TV screens, huge PA speakers, jukebox, a video poker corner, and an abundance of ashtrays on the bar and dining tables makes you feel like you're in the South. The blatant lack of uptight west coast interior decoration is charming and refreshing.

The food is the best we've had in town for New Orleans and southern style plates. Red beans and rice, hush puppies, corn bread, and praline drunken chicken are all very good. Tasty and more hones to true southern style cooking, the food is the best of the 3 southern style places we've tried, easily beating the mediocre Lagniappe and the dreadful Delta Cafe. Prices are not dirt cheap, but not too expensive either.

If you're up here in PDX from the South and looking to feel a little closer to home, have a drink and something to eat at Daddy Mojo's.

Casual Northeast neighborhood joint dishes up Southern comfort food.. In Short
This place has an odd set-up: There's a prep station next to the entrance, an accumulation of neon beer signs, poker machines and ATM that separate the restaurant and lounge. But the focus is on the heaping plates of Southern hospitality. Starters include crunchy fried crawfish tails basted in sweet chili sauce. For entrees, there's the hefty rack of baby back ribs slathered in lip-smacking barbecue sauce and served atop fresh-cut shoestring fries.

Disaster. We wandered in here hungry on a Friday night. Misled by Citysearch, we had read that it was good. I see now that it has changed hands. I guess that explains it. We waited an hour for our food, including the crawfish tail appetizer. The gumbo was bland at best. The crawfish were inedible. We left with a bad taste in our mouths. The service did what they could to make up for it, and we were not charged for the tails, but we'll never get the time back.

Lousy. I don't know how that reviewer could claim that this place is "about the food". We were the only group in the restaurant while a few patrons drank in the bar, yet we were ignored for most of our 2 hour dinner. The food is bland, with the lone exception being when the dishes are overly sweet. The citysearch review mentions the praline chicken being on the "sweet side". Try being on the dessert side, it tasted like it was smothered with maple syrup. And the sweet potato corn cakes, which sounded great, tasted like mush in extra sweet raspberry vinegar.

Don't waste your time with this place if you're a discerning eater. If you're a fan of Cajun, just head a few blocks up to Acadia, or try Lagniappe or Bernie's over on Alberta.

Disappointing -- did the mojo up and go?. I have no idea why this place is rated so highly. Our group of four were the only ones in the restaurant, and it still took forever for us to get our food! And while the plates looked like they might contain tasty Cajun dishes, everyone remarked on how bland (for the gumbo and red beans/rice) or oddly sweet (for the chicken) the food was. It appears that the owners recently swapped the restaurant and bar sections of the space, leaving the restaurant off in a small, hastily decorated corner. I can only imagine that this means they don't expect to make a lot of money from the restaurant. I guess I can see why.

Used to Be GOOD? New Owner BAD. I used to eat here when the big bald guy owned the place. The food was good and authentic. I've been gone since last August and was disappointed when I came in and ate here last week. The menu changed, the food changed, the people changed... Then I found the owner sold "due to health" reasons. Makes me sick that something good got started and then somebody else comes in and screws with it. Save your time and money. If you want southern food go somewhere else. Tell the new owner to make it Asian... stick with something you know dude.

not what it says it is. they say southern it is no way near any of what they say it is we were quickly seated and ignored finally when we did get our food we were ignored again
