If you're looking for a great atmosphere, haircut, and service, go to HairM and get a haircut form Christopher. He always does an excellent job! Tell them Jason Gray sent you :)
A vacation from the Barber. $$ but fun!
Do they serve alcohol to distract from the bad hair cuts?. Terrible cut. Did not follow instructions and got a generic too short haircut i could have gotten at half the price. Got RED marks on the back of my neck from them holding the clipper too long and had to go to a meeting the next day like that. The Beaverton location was beat up and the equipment looked old and dusty. The worst part is one client brought his toddler and we had to listen to him wail half the time. Never again.
Great customer service, friendly staff. Hair M was the first place I went to, to get my haircut when I first moved to Portland 2.5yrs ago. I was introduced to Bree and found her friendly, humorous spirit very inviting (especially to a new comer to town not knowing anyone). I have been going to Bree exclusively for 2.5yrs now and have found her service to be consistent, tailored to my needs, and even makes recommendations (whether it be products to use or a change in cut). She knows that I have a tendency to break out on the back of my hairline so she makes sure her razor is at it's sharpest to prevent breakouts. Taking that extra step shows her professionalism and commitment to quality care. I have (and will continue) to recommend her to friends seeking great, friendly service.
Love this place!. A year ago I was given a gift certificate for Hair M. I called and made an appointment with anyone that was available. Jess turned out to be a perfect match for me. Its been a year now, I usually go back every two months or so. I was just there yesterday for Jess to cut my hair as usual, before my Fiance' and were to get some pictures taken. She and the entire staff have always been friendly and attentive. It is refreshing to know that each time I went back, she remembered what was gong on in my life and is so nice to talk with. I have referred many friends and my future father in law and they have all raved about the place. Of yeah, and you get a beer there as well, that's a nice plus! So, keep up the good work! I am looking forward to visiting the "man spa" on my wedding day with the groomsmen, its gonna be great!
Good Men's Salon space, but the Hair Cuts are rushed.
HAIR M is a nice space that looks great and has the appearance of good service. You get beers, coffee etc., a show of professional appearing service, while you wait for your hair cut and the hair cuts are not too bad as well.
But, they do rush you and do not live up to the advertised Grooming Services description on the website.
My friends and I have had King and Emperors cuts from Leah and Bree their top L4 stylists and both give decent cuts but skip the neck rub, skimp a few minutes on the head and hand massage, and you end up with your 45 min King service reduced to 30 min or 60 min Emperors cut service reduced to 45 min or less which makes you feel a little cheated.
Follow through on the advertised Grooming Service description and time would be nice please!
What took me so long?. I recently received a gift card to Hair M and found the visit to be top notch. After bouncing around to different places around town, I believe I have found a home. The Ritz like service is what we all deserve and I am most positively going back again! Thank you to all the staff.....see you in 4 weeks.
I recently attended Hair M as my gf purchased me a coupon for the King's cut treatment, It was good for 1 haircut, styling, hot towel shave, and scalp massage- costs about $70 normally. My experience made me wonder exactly why there are so many good reviews here, however it turns out that Hair M gives discounts for customers who leave good reviews.
As I walked in, they offered my my choice of bear or wine, nice touch I assumed. The room looked great and there were 3 people greeting me. That was the best treatment I received that day.
My stylist didn't really seem very talkative or friendly, she just laughed at every dumb-joke I said to her and rushed through my haircut without a word. I really would have preferred more attention to detail on my hair for a "kings treatment". I asked her to use 1 size lower on her clipper settings to make my hair shorter and she seemed irritated with 'me'. My shampoo treatment consisted of the overuse of tea tree oil to make your head tingle. When I told the sylist what way I wanted my hair to look like she disregarded it and made me look like every other 45 year old man who walks into the shop (I am in my early twenties), which really made me feel like they have only 2 types of haircuts available. There was no comment about what specific details to work on, or what "I" would like out of my haircut. Overall the cut looked like the exact same thing I would have gotten from a $10 barber, in fact-much worse as there was no fading or leveling to my hair whatsoever. My scalp massage was uncomfortable and again felt rushed, I was never asked at any point if I was enjoying it or how I would like it done, they again used so much tea tree oil I was coughing and couldn't feel half my massage anyway. (fun fact- tea tree oil is also toxic to living organisms, so enjoy your over-sterilized head). The music was a cheap- "soothing sounds" cd that most gift shops sell which consists of chirping birds, water noises and bad harp playing, which kinda seemed like something a grandmother would prefer, not exactly men. Finally, they told me they could not perform my hot-towel shave, as "she didn't have time". Excuse me?- but for a $70 mens hair "appointment" I expect you to make time and be prepared. I had even told them that I showed up that day to look my best for an upcoming date. I left looking like an unkempt- 45 year old hobo. Even my gf was upset with my look. The last straw came from when it was time to leave, they said "your finished" and turned and walked off. Not a "goodbye"- not a "thank you", not even a head nod. The only lady still standing there was staring at a computer and was too busy to even watch me walk out the door. To everyone else- don't go here. I know I never will again. I will get my hair cut at the cheap place at the mall nearby my home where the entire staff bowed to me when I walked in.
Kody, we would like to extend our sincere apologies that your first experience to HairM was not favorable. Our mission is to make every client leave feeling like a king and it appears we fell short of that. Please know that our stylists are all very skilled at men's hair, and offer thousands of happy clients superior service and a wide variety of styles each month. But no matter how many happy clients we have, we listen closely to experiences like yours so we can continue to build a company that offers only the best service. We would like to clear up some confusion regarding your appointment. The Living Social certificate you purchased was for two services, a King's Cut and a Shave. We are sorry if the Living Social certificate was not clear that both services needed to be booked. We do take every client's experience to heart and if you would allow us to make things right with you we would like to be able to do that.
Consistency rocks!. When I look for a hair cut I expect consistency when I come back again. Hair M has provided that for me. I hate when I go in for a hair cut 2 or 3 times and get 2 or 3 different hair cuts. I know how I like my hair cut and I prefer to keep it that way. AAA+ for consistency. Oh and they are friendly too.
Hair M is Fantastic. I have been looking for a salon in Portland that carries Sidlab Hairproducts as my salon in NYC sold Sidlab. Great haircut!
