Really poor service.
Elmers is a chain and is predictable. There are a lot better places in Portland for breakfast but sometimes you just don't feel like waiting in line forever even if the meal is going to be great.
This is the first time I have been to this particular Elmers... Cornell Oaks area. The service was sloooooooow! There weren't many customers in the restaurant but none of them seemed to be getting any faster service than I was. I was just about to leave when the waitress finally showed up.
It took a looooooong time for my food to arrive. And since it was cold when it finally showed up, I don't think the kitchen was the bottleneck there.
Took a looooooong time to get my check and then I spent a loooooong time standing in front of the unattended cashier's booth.
When someone came out wearing a "Manager" shirt, I was asked how everything was. I responded that it was VERY slow. His reply? "Slow?".
No, "Gee I'm so sorry to hear that", or "We're usually very fast but five Waitresses called in sick" or "Well, obviously no one is forcing you to eat here".
Reading some of the reviews for other Elmers restaurant locations, I gather that my lousy service experience is not all that uncommon. My breakfast was $14 with the tip, which I think is pretty high for unremarkable food, average quantity and LOUSY service.
I think I will do IHOP or Dennys if I am looking for "average" from now on.

Good breakfast.
The breakfast here is great but I don't really like the other stuff on the menu. The breakfast however is a little overpriced. There are many items that are just as good as Denny's but twice as much.
