Even when it's crazy crowded (and Stumptowns are always crazy crowded), this big downtown coffeehouse feels spacious. Good for a quick detour if you get coffee cravings while on a Waterfront walk.
Where other cafes simply put a 'Help Wanted' sign in the window, Stumptown possesses a large mechanical claw that picks up and shakes the local modeling agency until the most beautiful people fall out, taking a long, winding slide to land in Stumptown's special barista school. Weeks later drool-inducing, shot-pulling baristas emerge behind the counters of Stumptown Coffee Roasters. While the claw-thing isn't true, the drool-thing is so get your to-go coffee with a lid.
Best coffee in town, excellent service. I've sampled coffee at over a hundred places in Portland, and Stumptown is unquestionably the best. The service is always quick and courteous, to the point that the barista will remake your drink if THEY feel it's not up to their standards. Major bonus points. The ambiance in the downtown location is somewhat more modern than the other two, and a bit less cozy. Plenty of room, Wi-Fi, and mostly good music make it a prime spot. Throw in the easily acessible location and you just can't do any better.
Great coffee+beer+WiFi+music = one-stop hangout!. Above all else, Stumptown serves up some of the best coffee for coffee-lovers. This is the first place I learned to truly appreciate a double espresso straight up. But don't overlook their French press coffee (a ridiculous deal at $1.00 for a "for here" cup+refill), which is made from one of their many high-quality blends. The flavors are often surprisingly unique, and have forever changed my opinion of what coffee is. But if caffeine's not your thing, this downtown location has a list of (mostly European) beers to rival any bar. And their rotating beer special is cheap -- which is nice, given the price of some of these hard-to-find beers. While most of the DJs that occasionally spin here play good stuff, one or two can play music that is "challenging" at times.
Why such a low rating for this site??. Yeah, the Belmont and Division stores are more cozy, but a 7.7??? I'm so thankful for this westside store. I hope Stumptown expands to having a store in NW too. The coffee here is totally amazing. I work in the coffee industry, and this is the best coffee in Portland, by FAR. The staff are sometimes short tempered and have a too-cool-for-school attitude that I don't really appreciate, but I guess Stumptown can't be perfect...
Great coffee. best in town, every time. Why would anyone ever go to Starbucks when there are three Sumptowns here in Stumptown.
