Portland >Pho Nguyen
Great noodles on the go. We have been going here consistently for about a year now. My kids, 6 and 4 absolutly love the place! They only order the chicken noodle soup, but I have to say the broth is incredible and the chicken chunks are lean and abundant. We get the vermicelli noodle bowls and love them. It is fun to doctor them with all the different sauces provided. The wait staff has ALWAYS been quick and efficient, but they do not speak a lot of english. The person that noted that hygeine was not seemingly a priority, may not have been wrong, but they may not have been much of a world travellor either. This is no street stall in Saigon, it is just a very simple, no nonsense, traditional, Vietnamese cafe.
fast, fresh, reasonably priced. I've been eating at Nguyen's many times over the last two years, and I've always been pleased with the food. I go there mainly for lunch, and even when the place is packed, I'm seated and served quickly. Gustatorily speaking, I am a creature of habit. I usually order the fresh spring rolls and a small Pho. On occasion I try the vermicelli bowls. The pho always arrives quickly. The vermicelli takes longer because the meat has to be grilled. I have waited up to a half hour for the vermicelli to arrive, so if you're in a hurry you may want to avoid ordering it. The flavor of the pho broth can be a little inconsistent, but it is always flavourful, and if - like me - you add the lime, jalapenos, basil, sprouts, chili sauce, and hoisin, it all tastes good going down. While I read the review by nena123, I can say I've never had odd items, dirty items, or spoiled food served to me at Nguyens. I recommend Nyugens without reservation.
Fresh, fast and large portions make this a great Pho restaurant. Very speedy service and a large menu to choose from. My mind has been changed about Vietnamese food by Pho Nguyen. The Bun bowls are great, try B1 to start with. Variety of meats, veggies and vegetarian options. The AC works well, perfect for a hot day.
People if you are easily disgusted do not go there. Lets start with the waiter, He handles food, money and his nails and in this whole time never washes his hands. The employes use one table where the employees allways sit at and the waiter was trimming his NAILS while i was eating there one table over the nails landing on the table, as anothers customers food is ready he goes and delivers the food without washing hands. Some one else gets up to pay also his job. He gets up to cut up salad no hand washing.
I think this place is a joke I can not believe they are still in business. Not the mention the mystery items that come with your food. STAY AWAY.
Horribly customer service. Went there last night for first time. After eating pho for every meal for last week at some of my other fave vietnamese joints I went to try this place out, but wanted something other than pho. I ordered a meal which sounded like a noodle dish w/ meat, shrimp, etc. When my meal arrives it turns it that it was a pho soup, even though it was listed on the "house specialties" section of the menu and not w/ the other 30 "pho soup" menu items on the left. I let them know that this wasn't what I wanted but they didn't care. It was only when someone in my party mentioned to them to put it in a togo container and that he'd pay for it did they agree to let me order something else. When my second order arrived it was not that good, and it seemed like a lack of TLC was put into it to spite me. I didn't think they would really charge us for the meal I didn't want, but when he brought the bill he brought it with the unwanted soup packaged togo, and did indeed charge us. Bottom line: horrible service and average food. I'd never go back and will reccomend others not to as well.
