Southern Food in NW!?!. I grew up in Texas and moved to Portland as an adult. The only thing I miss about the South (other than my family) is the food - and this restaurant goes a long way toward easing that longing. Their mac and cheese, meatloaf, chicken and dumplings, mashed potatoes and biscuits are all made from scratch and are absolutely delicious. ...everything else on the menu is made from scratch, too I think, but I can personally vouch for the above items.

The food is also VERY reasonably priced with specials every day and great happy hour deals.

This is one of the first reviews I've ever given on Citysearch. I'm giving it singularly because I love this place and want it to be around as long as possible. Happy Eating!

FINISHED. Gotta tell ya. I,ve been here three times now and it doesn't get any better. In fact it keeps getting worse. The first time here I had breakfast, not bad but nothing to rave about. The next time I had the sampler plate and chips and salsa. What a mistake. I could have broke a tooth on the over cooked under seasoned chips. The ribs were flavorfull but really dry and the plate came with three other really greasy piles of fried stuff. I figure the price I paid came to about $3.00 per four inch rib. Truely not a good deal. Gave it some time then decided "one more try". Well that one did it, I'm finished, and here is why. I entered and saw 3 couples sitting inside and saw that a few tables were open on the deck, sat outside and ordered rib-eye steak with onion rings and salad with ranch and a cup of coffee, also asked for chips and salsa. Got the salad first, it had some wilted and slimey leaves but even worse you could see the water they used to strech the dressing with because they didn't bother to shake it up. Gross. Got the appetizer at the same time as the steak. Again way over cooked and no seasoned store bought then deepfried tortilla chips. Could have scraped paint with them. Now the real kicker. I don't blame the guy who got the liver and onions just before they cooked my steak but they should have cleaned the grill first!!! There was so much grease and burnt fat on that steak and they way over cooked it. I asked for pink to rare and got med well to well done.Besides tasting like liver It would have been dry except I think the cook dunked it in a bowl of cold vegetable oil and threw it on the grill a second time. As far as the service, well that cup of coffe that was brought out an hour before I left was the only coffe I got. After my outdoor cig. I got tired of waiting for more coffe or at least the bill and decided go inside, there was the waitress, sitting at her own bar watching TV. Like I said----FINISHED---NO MORE TRYS FOR YOU GUYS

Mac-N-Cheese WOW. Greg's has a mac-n-cheese wedge appetizer that is to die for. I have never had them before Greg's and they are awesome. Love the outdoor seating in the summer also.

Really good BBQ. WHAT A KICK A** PLACE! My husband and I went there for dinner and think that the place is awesome! It reminds me of a quaint country cottage with lots of charm! Fabulous out door decks too. My Hubs ordered the BabyBacks and said they were fantastic. I had this chicken dish that has swiss and pineapple on top,mmm mmm mmm! They even knew what an Arnold Palmer was! The waitress was very helpful, and she let us know that the same owners own the Farmhouse next door, so since it was a Saturday night and the kids were at the sitters we decided to walk over and check it out after dinner. To my suprise they were doing Karaoke!! We had such a good time! We are planning my 13 year old's birthday for August and will probably go back to Gregs Backyard. It was a great experience. My thanks goes out to the Waitresses and cooks at the Back yard.

Best Little Backyard in Portland. Wow, I cannot believe I found this "Diamond in the rough" ! This place is fantastic! All of their food is smoked or homemade from scratch!, You couldn't ask, let alone pay for a better meal. The prices are great and the portions are big. Kids are aloud, which is hard to find anymore with a bar like atmosphere. Non-smoking too... I know awesome right? They have a full bar and the wait staff seem to be very knowledgable of specialty drinks, which is definately a plus in my book. Full lottery seperate from the eating area, ( I was able to slip in and win $60.00, yahoooo!) They also have these comment cards which are really cool, you can rate the service and food and atmosphere. We have been there 4 times now, and we have had nothing but good experiences with Carah, Marena, Jackie. They were very attentive without being hovery. We have found our new favorite place to eat, If you havn't been there you really should go. Don't forget to try the mac-n-cheese.!!!!!!!!!! Sincerely, Cooper213mont.
