Why 'Would Anyone Eat Here?.
ZERO STARS (the site made us give one, and that's too high)
After reading the other reviews, I'm not surprised that no one likes this place. Two friends and I went there this evening and the server was rather indifferent--that's not a big deal, she wasn't rude though she was humorless--and we ordered several appetizers, including two Caesar salads.
Who can screw up a Caesar salad?
These people can. It's as if they waved a bottle of tasteless Caesar dressing over the salads but tried to put as little as humanly possible on it. Five croutons on the plate with some shaved parmesan. Dull! Flavorless! Absolutely the worst Caesar salad we've had in our lives, and the waitress never even asked if everything was okay...which suggests she wasn't trained worth a damn in customer service...and they were not busy, either.
We will NEVER go back to this place. They have the manager's and chef's names on the door...but they should be wearing masks to hide their identities.
Don't waste your money.
Tell your friends.
Awful!.
Actually this deserves two "awfuls" - one for the terrible service and one for the poorly prepared food.
We were a party of four and, after being seated just before 7 PM we waited 40 (!) minutes before they got around to taking our order. The food arrived about 30 minutes later and two of the orders were wrong - mine was something completely different and another had the wrong sides along with the steak rare instead of the well-done that was ordered. When my corrected order finally arrived the rice was seriously overcooked and one of the scallops was raw. Not lightly sauteed like a scallop should be, but raw.
By the time the four of us finished eating in our staggered shifts it was around 9:00. Then another half hour wait before we could get coffee. And close to ten before we could get out of there. Three hours we'll never get back.
I've been to a couple other Stanford's in the Portland area over the years and have never experienced this kind of.....merde. And they can now add four people to the list of who will never eat at this place again.
Peevish manager. We went there today and decided to not go there again. My husband and I ordered salad for each of us but we realized we didn't get the egg it was on the menu description so we asked the waitress to let them know. She immediately said talk to manager and the manager came to us. She said " We are out of eggs, ok?" . She didn't apologize but made a face. My husband and I looked each other and paused for a moment. We laughed because that kind attitude, we totally not expected. I told the waitress afterword " Please, say sorry to the manager because we offended her, we were so neat-picking" . I didn't mean it but just I wanted let the waitress to know what happened to us from her manager. She said don't be sorry and it was busy day (the half of seats were empty) but I saw the manager couple of times after I said that to the waitress, and if I mean it I would just to say manager and gave her sincerely sorry but it was more way of wise crack. If they were taking my word, they should learn more real manner and get real. one more thing to add, the fries were greasy and my husband got sick after eating in there.
Terrible ...just terrible.
I've been Standards several times in the past while visiting Portland and while I never considered it great it was always good and consistent. However I returnded last week with a party of 6 and probably had the worst meal I've ever had in a restaurant....it was not even edible. All 6 of us were stunned and disappointed . My son had told me the place had suffered significantly under new ownership but this was a shock.
It was embarrassing to take friends from out of state and no one even ate 1/4 of their meal.
Sad to say ...this place is truly pathetic.
Bummer. I used to love to go to Newport Bay and Standford's but since Pacific Coast Restaurants sold themselves to Restaurants Unlimited, Inc., it just isn't worth going anymore. The portions are small, expensive and overcooked. Some of my favorite items are off of the menu and what remains doesn't taste the same. I have given the new Standford's and Newport Seafood Grill many chances, but no more. Sad to say, but the halibut fish and chips from Burgerville tastes better, are a better value, and you get more to eat. : (
What happened to the old Stanford's?. I wondered what had happened to the Stanford's Restaurant I had been to so may times previously for many meals. I just found out that unfortunately Stanfords was bought out by some big corporate chain a few months ago and they have been doing menu changes ever since. The menu seems to have had a complete overhaul and the excellent items that used to be on the menu (and I'm sure were the reason the place was always packed) are no longer on there. I usually order chicken and now the menu only has two chicken dinner items on it, I did try the Honey Rosted Dijon chicken, which was excellent, however. The service was HORRIBLE, the worst I've had in ages! We received a $15 gift card to use at the restaurant, that coupled with the fact that I still had a $25 gift card to use up, was part of the reason we chose to eat there. I am not sure I'll be going back any time soon. I think I'd rather go with Outback Steakhouse, instead--at least I know their menu hasn't been completely changed!
Considering what we have to choose from.... ... Stanfords is good. There just isn't a good restaurant in the entire Clackamas area nor in most of the surrounding neighborhoods. Stanford's is one of the best, but that is not saying much. Everything about Stanfords seems OK/average. Food is satisfactory, good selection, drinks are decent, service is acceptable. Given the fact that this is one of the only worthwhile places in Clackamas it is usually quite busy so reservations (if accepted) might be a good idea.
