GiGi Aveda Downtown Location. I have mixed feelings about this salon. It is so convenient to my apartment and I love some of the Aveda products (especially Shampure) that I've used. A stylist named Christina used to work at this location and she gave me two of the best haircuts I've had in years. Also, I have had several manicures with Tiffany and they were great. BUT I don't recommend any Aveda hair color products. I am a natural light brown/blond with lots of gray now. In trying to give me some highlights, Christana used a combination of color and bleach that really fried my hair and bleached it out to almost a white blond shade. It has taken a year and the help of a great stylist at a non-Aveda salon to get my hair back to feeling normal (i.e. soft and gently curly and a natural color). Also, I like to get a manicure before I leave town for vacations. I booked a manicure three weeks ahead before leaving for Christmas holidays.......and I received a call the day before my appointment asking me to reschedule for four days later. Apparantly there were not going to be any manicurists in on the day of my appointment. So, I did my own nails. I am leaving in five days for another trip. I made a manicure appointment two weeks ago for this afternoon. I received a call at 10 a.m. this morning asking me to re-book for next week - two days after I leave for vacation. I think the main problem is management................I would still go to Tiffany for manicures if I could book appointments directly with her. I will still buy Shampure. But there is a different receptionist every time I've been in - no consistency. And the main thing is don't ever use Aveda hair color products on your hair. They are too harsh !

Really Bad Salon. I went to get my hair done. I chose this salon because it's an Aveda Salon. Well, I won't make that mistake again. This place is a Super Cuts hidden in the mall reselling Aveda Products. The staff have no clue how the products should be used.

Let's chat about my hair. I went in asking for brown. I like to give stylist the means to show me their creativity. So, that's all I said. I ended up with BLACK HAIR. That wasn't the worse part. I had black dye all around my head and in my ears. I came back that day. She couldn't remove it. She was using the exfolient product to do this. That product is used to clean the face.

I spoke with the manager. She was not stylist! She was telling me that happens. NO!!! You don't pay $200 for a color job and get an inch of dye around your head.

I suggested she retrain the stylist... that was a new idea to her. She kept asking what do I want. I wanted it not to happen. There was no way I was going back to this place and not just because my hair looked like HELL.

The manager is not a stylist. She had no clue there are special products to remove dye from the skin.

Well, IDIOT here you go!

Revlon Roux Clean Touch - Haircolor Stain Remover: This is rumored to work very well, even being able to remove some clothing stains.

Tweezerman PRIMA-TINT Tint and Color Remover: This one is all natural and works on both skin and clothing.

Also, the place is dirty!!!! I had the feeling I should of left when my stylist was 10 mins late for the first appt of the day.

I didn't, next time I will..

So, I thank you GIGI salon. You taught me several great lessons.

Don't select a salon by the Aveda website!

RUN out the door if you get the feeling something is wrong about the place.

Don't be polite and worry about causing a scene when you realize a stylist screws up. Cause the scene that is the only satification you are going to get out of this.

Great Place - I will keep going back. I have had my hair cut and colored several times now by Tiffany at the downtown location and she does an awesome job! She also did my hair and make-up for my wedding and she really did a great job. I got so many compliments. I have had bad experiences getting up-dos for special occasions before, but not here - it was perfect. I will keep going back for my cuts and color. The prices are the same or less than comparable salons but the quality is much better.

Wash. Sq. - Taven is the man!. I'm extremely picky about my hair and was given a gift card to Gigi Salon when we moved to the area; I made my husband use it and he lucked into Taven. After he'd had a few cuts I decided to give Taven a chance and have never been happier with my hair. We've been seeing Taven for about four years now and I recommend him to everyone - he's an absolute genius and obviously loves what he does. At this point I walk in and ask him what he wants to do to my hair, his work is that good. I admit the Washington Square salon itself does leave a bit to be desired as it's a bit dark and noisy and they seem to have trouble acquiring and keeping quality receptionists, but the trade-off is worth the compliments I get.
