Be prepared for a LONG WAIT!!. I realize this is a teaching clinic but the waits can be incredibly long. I arrived once for a 12:15 appointment and left at 3:30 grumpy, tired, and famished from a need for something to eat. I spent 2/3 of my time waiting....waiting...waiting. If you bring a young child there, bring books, colors, a bottle of water, and plenty of snacks. Go as early as possible to avoid sitting in a stuffy waiting room during nap time. NOT fun!!

My direct experience has either been great or very poor. I don't mean the staff are not polite and professional......they are. Just that sometimes I leave feeling doubtful the plan of action towards my health will work. It can take months to find the right path and the right supplements/plan....but if you are patient and have the funds, it can be worth it. Being a teaching clinic means everything takes longer and requires a lot of patience!

Menopause, My Wife was happy. This was back in 11/06/2004. My wife of 2 months at the time had already been to three MD's. She hid the fact she was in menopause for whatever reason. She had about five bottles of various prescription pills that she took with little effect on her bleeding that drained her energy and well being.

I told her of Acupuncture and Eastern medicine, yin and yang etc. etc. We found Pettygrove clinic not knowing anything about the place.

When we arrived we paid cash for the visit, $85 at the time. Filled out the usual questionnaire and were called when the time for her visit came. There are interns there so it was hard to tell the old pros from the newbies. A slight Caucasian man came into the room with three interns. They were all very serious and polite. The doctor did a pulse diagnosis. A way of detecting problems or well being in the vital organs of the body. He said he was going to start with an acupuncture treatment and a prescription of herbs. My wife had to be assured for about five minutes before she would let him "poke her with needles" :) Then during the treatment she was proud to say "this doesn't hurt at all". He left and an intern gave us our parting instructions. We went to the on site herbal dispensary and got the medicine. It was a powder to be dissolved in water and taken three times a day. It had a wonderful smell like licorice or this tea called "Mu Tea".

I knew little of Menopause. This was a last ditch effort to find her relief. Three MD's had failed. Within a week her problems disappeared. They reappeared a little a month later. She used the herbs for a week again and she has been free of the curse ever since. It has been seven years now. It could have been a coincidence or maybe her body was just finally done with menopause. However both of us were left feeling that Chinese medicine came through where modern medicine had failed. Not bad for $85 and one visit.

Pettygrove clinic is the read deal.. I went to Acupunture at the Pettygrove clinic and had a life changing experience. The interns and doctors worked seemlessly together to help me restore my body and get me back on my path. The interns I worked with were so committed and caring about figuring out my health concerns. Little did I know that Acupunture and Chinese herbs could get me back on me feet and help me to rediscover my life path. I would definitely recommend them!

Awful Experience!!!. I am a firm believer in Chinese Medicine. It has had a tremendous impact in improving some of my health issues. Unfortunately, the Chinese Medicine Clinic that helped me so much is in a different state so I began to search for one in the Portland area. I tried the Pettygrove Classical Chinese Clinic in the Northwest after seeing and ad, and checking out their website. Big mistake!!! My experience there was awful. Both the doctor and intern there showed absolutely no compassion, and acted as if I didn't know what I was talking about when I was describing my symptoms. The doctor especially had a very condescending attitude towards me when discussing my health concerns. I should have left right then and there, but when you are deperate for regaining your health sometimes you just ignore your inner voice. So I received my acupunture treatment and in the middle of what should be a quiet relaxing time some interns outside my door started talking loudly and laughing. After my treatment I was hurried out the door with no discussion about how I was feeling or future treatments. I soon found out that my treatment was holding up the front desk from closing down the cash drawers, and I they made me feel as if I had been inconveniencing the rest of the staff. I am so sad to say that I left there feeling terrible. Like I was more of a burden than a patient. I just have to say that anyone who has been going through health issues already tends to feel like a burden on family and friends. For me to reach out and talk about my ailments is very difficult and emotional, and when you are treated in the manner that I was it can make a person feel quiet worthless. I have never in my life typed up a review, but I feel that what I experience had to be told. I just have to say once more that Chinese Medicine is absolutey amazing if you can find a doctor who is caring, compassionate, and a good listener.
