Imbibe. the drinks are stiff at Imbibe, but the food is awful. no, it's really awful: freezer burnt, reheated and dried out. even the fries were inedible. order happy hour drinks, but pass on the bar menu.
LEARN TO COUNT.
Learn to count!!!!
Beware the bartender likes to add drinks you never ordered onto your tab. I won?t be going back there. He tried claiming I didn?t know how much I was drinking. I know for a fact I had 3 drinks with a glass of water in between. I did have to ask for water several times. They won?t be getting my business again. Lot of great bars in PDX that are honest.
Horrible customer service. Slow table service. When they overcharged us for a drink, the bartender refused to take it off and insisted that he actually should of charged us for three additional drinks. Absolutely unbelievable. I would never go there again or recommend it to anyone.
Food meh, lazy staff ignores your cries of hunger. On a recent Saturday night about 6 p.m. we arrived at Imbibe and were rewarded with the opportunity be ignored for a very long time before the wait person casually strolled over to inquire if, by some chance, we would care for something to eat. Seemed stunned the answer was yes. She had to go process this notion for another good 10 minutes before we actually got to order. I thought the food was really average, my wife said her drink was good. Won't be going back.
horrible food. I used to live in the neighborhood and this place was decent. Tonight I had cold (icey) mussels. My sister had a hair in her fries, and a VERY fishy tasting chicken sandwich. Another friend found another hair in her dish about 3 minutes later. On top of this, the server seemed used to this and unapologetic--although she took the mussels off the bill. After lamenting, we realized no one in our group had ever sent a meal back or complained before. Never ever go here. Maybe people have caught on, because the place was empty.
Best bartenders, great atmosphere.
Best bloody mary's in town (next to zell's). I made a joking passing comment to my husband - where's my pickled bean? - the manager heard me, ran to the store and presented us with a cup of pickled beans. Wow! I seriously used to come here just for a bloody mary. It's like a salad in a drink or something.
Another bartender makes the most amazing virgin cocktails, and is just super nice. The happy hour menu is pretty good too. Nice place to hang out.
Classy spot for cocktails and appetizers. I was at Imbibe on a Sunday night. The band was too loud to allow any conversation over the music. At least they were pleasant to listen to. Our server was attentive and helpful. My date's drink was great. The food was okay. Inventive recipes, with less than amazing taste. So go for appetizers! We shared the olives with bread and oil. Yum. My favorite thing about the place is the ambience. So stylish, chic, and classy!
Imblah. What was good... my beverage. Maybe, maybe I would come again to sit at the bar for one, but probably not. I should have known as the bar area was fairly full and the dining area, not so much. What was bad...the food. Not just kind of not good but BAD. Expensive and not tasty. The fries had an especially nice flavor/aroma of old burnt fryer oil, mmmmmm. Did I mention the incredible disappearing server? Magic. Continuing on bad, the "music" which was probably shooting for ambient but was really just some guy alone at a computer making strange special effects sounding noise. At least he seemed to be having a better time than me. At least these are all things that, hopefully can be improved. Proceed with caution. And a full stomach.
Was the Best Place to Hear Live Cover Bands! Until very recently.... Hello, I hear this place is really great. I have been to Oregon once but never here. This Bar used to have live music, but it seems that there was a cover of Jimi Hendrix that a band played. Some a$$hole, from the American Society of Musicians and Publishers, wrote down the names of the songs and is now suing in a federal court. I wonder if he even has standing for Jimi. No one speaks for Jimi, 'cept for Jimi, and I am for damn sure that he (or his estate) would want people jamming on his song, eating some great food ( I do not know for sure, but I heard this place was good) and drinking some beers. Also this is a dangerous slipper slope, so no band can ever cover another band's song? This does not seem like a good thing for public policy. Every time me and my band sing "Bad" I gotta pay Mike? I hope the dude who filed the suit spontaneously (sp.) combusts while listening to smoke on the water. (used with permission)
A cocktail of clever drinks, interesting bar food and a hip bar scene shake things up on Hawthorne..
In Short
This funky space, decorated with gilded walls, chandeliers and a mixture of seating, draws diners early and barhoppers later in the evening. Creative cocktails like the namesake Imbibe--a thyme-infused vodka and strawberry martini--and the pint-glass sized "APG" bloody mary with a pickled green bean keep the late-night partygoers grooving to DJs and live music on weekends. Nibbles like the crispy calamari, Yukon gold fries and standard hot wings satisfy.
