They have really good pretzels, and apparently really good (and well-known) dill pickle soup. Friendly staff, quaint too :)

FUN PLACE!. This place is more fun. Its defiantly a portland style hole in the wall from its location to its decorations inside.

The staff is very nice and know german. The Menu is fun with things like rare green ice cream made from a flower to pickle soup! despite the funkiness the food is MUCH better than i imagined and defiantly worth going out of my way to get again. Great for first dates or people visiting out of town and want to KNOW Oregon.

the beer isn't super fantastic but your in Oregon! if you want a good beer go to a brewery like raccoon Lodge!

Better than Expected. If you are looking for fine dining, this is not the place. But to get a great meal, good service and value, this is as good as it gets in Portland.

The Soup is unique, and the menu has enough choices to suit just about anyone.

I can't imagine why someone would have taken issue with cost, or why another reviewer who says they are Bavarian (doubtful) would not like the food. Personally, I don't need PC decor to enjoy my meals.

Unispired. The ambience, decor, food, and service were quite boring. Gypsy pork dish was heavy with low-quality meat. Need to spruce up the place and snazz up the menu.

I like this place. I love getting 2+ vegies with my meal, I love the dill pickle soup, the liver and onions are usually great, I like the variety and choices. Great desserts too

Disappointment. I am actually coming from Germany (Bavaria) and I knew I had to keep my expectations at bay but this Restaurant was on of the biggest disappointments ever !

We were sitting in a side room which was horribly painted with a Bavarian landscape. The beer was fresh but no head ! German beer needs a head. I was told to eat the pickle soup which is definitely NOT a German tradition and it was cold and just dire.

I ordered a "Rahmschnitzel" (pork schnitzel) with a creamy sauce. The meat was not of very high quality and it was very little for 12 bucks. It was just greasy and with some imagination I was able to guess that this was cooked with German inspiration.

The place itself was just of the road in the basement and it really felt like a basement dive bar to me. All the tacky wanna be German elements in there were just relentless.

I know you never get it a 100 percent authentic but this place is just delivering a soulless performance and I am feeling ashamed that this place calls itself Bavarian restaurant.

I would have given no stars at all but the lowest you can do here is one star and that one is actually for the nice service. Surprisingly he was speaking German as well !

Authentic and nice!. As a person born and raised in the South of the German speaking Area of Europe, I must say: great food, great service, authentic dishes, and reasonable prices. A place where the Southern German food is cooked by people who were born and raised in Southern Germany obviously has a big advantage over other Restaurants where the cooks, not being born and raised in Southern Germany, may have a hard time knowing what the food should actually taste like, or what temperature the beer and the wine should be served at: the best German Eatery in the Portland area.

Great German Food. The food is beyond compare, made fresh and the service friendly. You can't go wrong with anything on this menu and the Dill Pickle Soup defies description. It's probably addictive!

Best and freshest German food in town. My husband is German, and we travel there to visit relatives every other year. The food at Otto and Anita's is truly authentic and always delicious. The service is friendly and helpful--if a bit slow at times. The fresh green salads before your entree are very different with lovely homemade dressings, and the delicious German wines are not found elsewhere in this area. You will find a wonderful welcoming ambiance at Otto & Anita's that will have you returning again and again !!

Best German in Town!. Awesome German food; my boyfriend is from Germany, and he swears by Otto and Anita's. You have to try the dill pickle soup! There is also this German ice cream there... I cannot remember the name, but it is green. AMAZING! Pick up some pastries on the way out as well; well worth it.
