no review yet, but are they open for Christmas Dinner?.
I am visting my daughter in Portland and need to know a great location for Christmas Dinner. What would you suggest, including Viti's?
Much Thanks,
Burke Horner
Loved it!. This was a great experience. The staff was very friendly and we were seated right away. The food was excellent! One of the specials was Crab Ravioli and we could not get enough! It was SO good! The wine selection is very nice and you can have ANY wine by the glass. This is a great date spot for a nice quiet dinner in a great atmosphere.
A selection of wine and Italian small plates at this new trattoria, just steps away from the Pearl district..
In Short
Set in a subterranean corner spot with lots of light, diners are greeted by a spare, modern space highlighted by a gleaming open kitchen. Dark walls and a granite bar are set off by crisp white tablecloths. The Italian-inspired menu consists of smallish plates at reasonable prices for the sip-and-nibble crowd. Starters include thick-grilled bruschetta and grilled pizza topped with prosciutto and pesto. For entrees there's clams in a white-wine saffron broth.
A Wowing Experience Everytime. I have gone to Vitis with groups or with just another couple, and am surprised everytime by the cusine and staff. The food is wonderful and at an even better price, the wine list is incredible, and the owner will even chat with your party. I loved this place so much that we planned our company Christmas party there! This place is a real "Portland Jem".
Love this Place!!!!!. My husband and I recently dined at Vitis and had a wonderful evening. The service was attentive, personable, and knowledgeable. We were celebrating a birthday and the whole staff including the owner made our experiece a perfect one. We have become regulars because we feel so at home here. The food is exceptional and we appreciated the server's suggestions. This is a great find!!!!!!!!! Wine list-Excellent!
Great Food, Amazing Wine List and Friendly Staff. I love this place and we always take friends from out of town to Vitis...the wine list is incredible and affordable (no huge mark-ups)! The small plates are wonderful since you can share them with friends and get a taste of the whole restaurant not just your entree. And I overheard that the owner/chef makes her own Kahlua and Lemoncillo...yummy! Also the Pear dessert is out of this world, okay everything is great. I need to tall you that they staff is friendly and knowledgeable about pairing food with wine, and they do not recommend the highest priced wine but what will complement your dinner and they pocketbook. I have never had bad service at Vitis, even when the place is packed...Thank you!
great food and wine. Great space, wonderful food and all wines by the glass - great combination. I have enjoyed my dinner every time. The steak, pasta, pizza and salads are all very tasty. My partner and I were in for Valentine and although the restaurant was packed to the gills the service was still friendly and the food was as good as ever. Loved the oysters.
Extremely Poor Service. Nine friends gathered at Vitis on Saturday night. We called ahead and were promptly accommodated. The ambiance and wine list were excellent. Unfortunately, extremely rude service caused our experience to quickly sour. We were in no rush, yet our waitress was so anxious to take our order, she literally TOLD us what she was bringing for appetizers. We made it a point to say we wanted to take our time and enjoy the evening. Her response? So you want the pasta with marinara? She rolled her eyes as we pondered menu choices and when my friend asked to see a menu, it was shoved in her face. By 8, the restaurant was out of pasta and pizza two of the three main vegetarian selections. At that point, we had enough and requested our bill. The chef generously paid the check, but the food was not worth the horrible experience.
Best wine bar in town. My husband and I can't get enough of Vitis. The owner and staff are very friendly, the wine list is huge and almost everthing is by the glass. The Owner's grandmother is from Italy and a lot of the recipies are hers. The meatballs, antipasta, pizzas...everything we've had is amazingly good. We thought we'd try out the other wine bar in the pearl and they were so snooty, the food options were way over priced and they only had a handful of wines by the glass. We'll never stray from Vitis again!
Vitis Meatballs 4 Me.
First, I swear I visit Vitis more than it is actually open. I typically drive by for dining on Mondays and after the 6th visit, I may "get it" that they are closed. What is it about Mondays & restaurants? It drives me nuts. I think -- I'll visit Vitis because they don't have the "walk in" traffic that 21st & 23rd do, but when I go they are closed.
Anyway, 1 night I actually found them open. It was good. I had meatballs and tomatoes. The meatballs ROCKED! I highly recommend them. The tomatoes were hot, small and weird. I love tomatoes, but these didn't hit the spot. Service was good. The staff behind the bar was friendly when I arrived and on my depart. I appreciate that. So friendly that I wanted to stop again tonight. But - they were not open. Sigh. : - (
