Slow Bar remains the upscale-yet-casual alternative to its neighboring bars. Best for day drinking, then depending on how your night's looking: chill or a doozy, head over to the Side Door or MFP, respectively.
They're known for their burgers, so don't mess around and just get one! They do stack them obscenely high, so get a knife, too. Great fries and good for groups of people because of their curved booths. More friends than dates, and not a good spot for conservative geriatrics. Luckily, I don't hang with that crowd anyhow.:)
really door guy?. I am furious at the service I received at the door of this establishment. My valid driver's license damn near got ripped up (if you could tear plastic) by an ignorant door man. My id is from California, valid, and covered in holographic state seals. Also, I'm almost 30! School your man on out of state identification. Should have gone to MFP.
Excellent Burger, Mac & Jack's African Amber. Seriously the best burger in Portland, IMO. Their regular burger and their seasonal burger are always delicious. I usually don't write reviews but am motivated to do so because the burger is that good AND they often have Mac & Jack's African Amber on draft, which is one of the best beers ever! Great place, the bartenders & servers are cool, always a mixed bag crowd. Occasionally it is difficult to get a seat but if you wait awhile one always comes open.
Upscale bar food.
The food is like typical barfood taken to the next level. Instead of chicken strips, they offer tastefully fried chicken with honey butter. A better burger than many burger joints. I've yet to go when the place is really busy, and it seems to be half bar / half restaurant, but not quite either.
A good place to stop by if your in the neighborhood.
Astounding burger. Ah, this burger is perfection! Cooked rare as requested (I don't know why most places even bother taking a temp, when 99% of the time what they deliver isn't what you ordered), with one crisp piece of lettuce, savory aioli, melty cheese, and deep-fried, yet somehow light onion rings on a yummy bun. So big & filling, especially with the fries (to which I opted to add "stinky" cheese). And, at $9, a bargain compared to so many other local spots with inferior burgers.
Great burger if you want to drop 10 bucks.. good but expensive food, good but expensive beer, and our bartender was a tool. not my fav spot but it will do the trick, occasionally.
Name says it all.
BAD customer service. I don't know if the wait staff/cooks were having a bad day, but it took over 40 minutes for us to get our food - and it wasn't even that busy. Our group saw at least two other tables served way before us even though they arrived after we got there. We got a lot of attitude as well. For example, when we asked about our food the waitress tersely told us, "it wasn't ready yet!" Not even a "sorry," not even a smile...nothing! zilch! Next time I'm going to My Father's Place next door.
On the upside, the food is excellent for a bar.
Take it easy..
I've been to Slow Bar about twenty times and have only had one off experience. The service is always good, even when the bar is packed. Fridays and Saturdays it takes longer, but just order a bucket of Sessions and take it easy. The food is incredible (especially the burgers [they use Strawberry Mountain Organic Beef]). The atmosphere is cool but not pretentious. The music is sometimes lame, but it's not usually too loud, just too rockin.
The only reason I hasten to write such a glowing review is because I don't want all you jokers going there and gobbling up the booths.
I love slowbar. Great place to go. Not your average bar food. The foods great. How many bars can you actually go to and get a great meal. The hamburgers there are the best I've ever had. Very trendy, I love the juke box and the people there are very friendly.
Great Place. This place is so solid. Lots of overrated places in PDX, but this place delivers. Best burger I have ever had.
