Editorial Review for Doug Fir – by Bevyn K. Rowland
In Short
Exposed fir beams and a winding wooden bar are illuminated by chrome light fixtures in retro-mod decor. Rough-edged rockers huddle in vinyl booths, while a swanky Eastside cohort indulges at the blond-wood counter. Downstairs, a 300-person venue conjures music hounds seven nights a week. Upstairs, a huge menu of Northwest comfort cuisine and knockout libations satiate preshow partiers and after-hours club-hoppers. Tasty eats are served 21 hours a day.

Insider Tips
Know Before You GoMint juleps and bloody marys are potent and not for the light of heart. Daintier palates will appreciate a blackberry cosmo or specialty martini.
The ExtrasThe lounge is located right across from the groovy Jupiter Hotel, catering to the budget-wise hipster crowd.
On the MenuMenu items include flaky halibut fish-and-chips, meltingly delish crab cakes and fire-grilled artichokes. Heavier faves like the meat loaf or biscuits and gravy will help bring you down after a long night of cocktails and clubbing.

The food and service is awful, the bar staff act like you are a burden and don't want to serve you. The food is okay for bar food if that tells you anything. I do like the smoked fish and cheese plate, the smoked trout is really awesome. Their beer is way too expensive, as is most everything else they offer. I would only go if you wanted to see a show. And I hear if you don't have tickets the bounce staff will let you on with enough coaxing...
Pros: Great music venue
Cons: Too hip

Ok, so we went on a Monday night which we know is not the best night to go out. The food was way beyond bad. I do beleive that I was eating the previous weekend's scalloped potatoes, at least I hope that was the problem. There was a coating of cheese on top that was so hard I had to cut it with a steak knife. The "thick" pork chop that I had was really two average size ones that were over cooked. There were also liberal amounts of salt and pepper on everything. Another at our table ordered the Mac and Cheese which was basically noodles with cheese and then baked. There was no creaminess at all. We also got the onion rings which were extra greasy and again loaded with salt and pepper. The fish and chips also ordered was the only thing that came out as expected. Good sized portions of crispy fried fish and more fries than a single person should eat. The service was good and the food did come out of the kitchen in a reasonable amount of time. The Doug Fir has a really cool bar. I could see going there for drinks, or a show in the lounge downstairs, but I will never eat there again.
