Portland >Night Light Lounge
Despite its evening leaning name, this is a relaxed spot to meet up for bottomless mimosas during weekend brunch hours (no line!) or an early afternoon happy hour--the generous house nachos are just $5. Great all weather heated/covered patio!
Great bottomless mimosas, breakfast food! Their bacon is phenomenal and so are their huevos rancheros. They do have gluten free options (food cooked separately) however WARNING! If you are gluten free for health reasons the Bloody Mary although delicious contains beer.
Love this place. I visited Night Light the other night for my bday. Even though they were out of a few things on their menu, the service and atmosphere made up for it. It's so cute and the lighting is perfect. I don't know what you mean about rude wait staff because our waiter bought me a drink and hung out with us when he finished closing everyone out. The bartender was also very friendly and I was with a group of about 10 and we ordered alot of drinks. Everything about this place rocked and I will be back soon. It was a great night and none of us had any desire to go somewhere else after about an hour like it usually is when you are with a somewhat big crowd. Everyone was pleased and had a great time.
Great, easy spot to hang out. I'm shocked that this place has gotten any bad reviews. I go to Night Light frequently and have had great service, great drinks and tasty food. I recommend this place to everyone...
Agree with the HORRENDOUS service. I was here several weeks ago, but not by choice because I had been here before and wasn't really thrilled by the place. Anyway someone else got my first drink and things were all fine. I went up to the bar for the second round. It took awhile for the bartender to come over but granted it was crowded. I ordered a few rum and cokes. He gave me the drinks, took my card, and I told him I wanted to close now. He then started to help other customers. After 5 minutes of yelling for him he came over looking annoyed. I told him to give me my card back. He brought over a stack of cards, and still seeming very annoyed asked who I was. He handed me my card and walked away. He never gave me a receipt to sign or a copy for myself. I again for 5 minutes tried to signal him over again. When he came over he was pretty ticked off this time. He demanded what I wanted. I asked for my receipt. He looked at me like I was crazy and asked me "Do you really expect me to go through all of the thousands of receipts and give you yours?" Yes, I told him. He laughed and said no and started to walk away. I then demanded for my receipt again. He replied to me saying to come back tomorrow and talk to the manager if I had a problem. I told him that I would. He told me fine and to "f--- off". I then stormed out. I didn't find out what they had charged me until it came up on my credit card account a couple days later. Thankfully it appeared that they didn't add injury to insult and overcharge me however I never knew that night how much the drinks cost me. This place thinks they're all that but they never will be until the service improves.
I just had to say something after reading the recent reviews, since it seems rather clear that theyr'e FAKE. Look at the dates. Until recently, the average time between reviews was something like four months. Then last month, just a couple days after my friend gave them a bad review on 4/24, calling them "horrendous", among other things, they somehow managed to get FOUR 5-STAR REVIEWS IN TWO DAYS, and one more review within those two days of 3-stars, even though it reads like a cheesy 5-star review.. Were the "reviewers" paid, or friends, or the owners themselves? Who knows.. seems unlikely to be a coincidence, and the last one giving a 3-star seems an attempt to make it not appear so painfully obvious.
At any rate, I was there during the visit my friend described, and it was easily the worst customer service I've had at ANY business in the last decade, and probably ranks in my top 5 worst of all time, as far as restaurants go. Whether the place is always such a black hole, I have no idea, and don't really intend to find out, though I am somewhat tempted to go back to see if the waiter (or whatever his actual job was, since he seemed so unfamiliar with how a waiter should act) remembers telling me and my friend to never come back. If he's still there.. THAT GUY (which I think is the guy with the mustache somebody else mentioned in their review) SHOULD HAVE BEEN FIRED for his behavior, and that's not including my suspicions that the reason he threw away our bread when it was finally ready was because he'd spat on it or something in the back room and didn't want to serve it to somebody else. Not a claim, mind you.. just seems a reasonable guess, otherwise why would he throw it out when others were waiting on bread? Just to be that much more of a tool in front of us and other customers?
So, yeah, if you like abuse, indifference, and employees trying to pass the buck instead of doing their jobs, feel free to check them out.
Oh, but the art is nice. lol
I should directly deposit my paycheck to the NL.
Where can you go to rub elbows with tattooed cuties and business men alike? Why the NL of course. This popular Southeast destination attracts patrons of all kinds, proving that variety is in fact the spice of night-life. With low lighting, copper-topped tables and rotating art shows, this bar is a unique blend of comfortable and cool, with a touch of swank. Seating is your choice of chair, booth, couch or barstool, with outdoor tables on the sidewalk and brand new back patio.
Once you find your spot, the friendly, attentive and smoldering staff (i'd fry bacon on 'em!) is sure to quickly put something delicious in your drinking hand. Offerings include local micros on tap, an excellent wine selection, and a long list of signature cocktails, all made-to-taste with the freshest ingredients. If you plan on having a few, there?s no excuse to do so on an empty stomach. The innovative kitchen staff will whip you up a wide variety of eats, from filling nachos and delicious salads with homemade dressing, to Chicken-Sausage Mac and Cheese, Seared Ahi (menu items might not be current but you get the idea) and much more. Everything is made in house from locally grown and certified organic ingredients.
If conversation lags, feel free to pick up one of the many board games provided, or make your way to the pool table for some sticky-icky. The Night Light is a great place to bring a date, have a meeting, or just belly up to the bar and slurp down PBR?s. Whether you come alone or bring the party, you?re sure to have a night to remember (or forget, if you prefer).
Favorite Portland bar - love the bartenders!. one of my all time favorite bars in the city! i love trying new places, but i end up here time and time again because i know i'll get great drinks and friendly service from the bartenders, yummy food, good people watching (and meeting), comfy booths, scattergories - i could go on and on. gotta love the bartender/waiter with the handlebar mustache, though - a classic portland guy. he's got great stories, even better advice, and always makes me laugh, not to mention he mixes a mean drink and makes sure i'm never holding an empty glass. make a point to become friends with him and you won't be sorry. he ROCKS!
Kickin joint. I've been making this place my haunt for the past year, and I can say that it's ALWAYS happening. In fact, it's regularly jam-packed. And not only are the servers and bartenders warm and welcoming, they make it a point to get to know the regulars. In my opinion, this speaks volume about customer service. The jukebox ROCKS. In fact, I believe it was voted best jukebox in Portland in Willamette Week--and if it wasn't, it should be! Finally, the staff is totally hot, which doesn't hurt. BAM.
Best place in the world. I love this place. The staff goes out of it's way to be nice but not in a fake way. It's hard to believe that it's a bar with the great food they serve up it's almost fine dining. Their specialty drink menu has all kinds of cool drinks on it. I especially like the Mike Screw. Keep up the good work.
SE Pdx best bar. Now that the weather is getting warmer, patio drinking is on my mind. I keep seeming to wind up at the nightlight lounge on Clinton and 21st and for good reason. They have a really cool staff, and although they can be overwhelmingly busy at times, as a service industry vet myself I can always appreciate people who remember your name and drink, as they do here. The food is really good too, maybe the best ahi tuna dish I've had in town, including much pricier restaurants. Drink and food specials daily, great jukebox and some cool patrons aswell. I tended to avoid evenings a bit, cause it often got smokey, but I guess they made the bar area non smoking till 9 or 10 now. Pluss with the doors open it doesnt matter anyways. Did I mention I love this joint, try it out.
Horrible Service, Apathetic Attitude at Nightlight...Buyer Beware!.
This is the 2nd time I've been to Nightlight. The patio is nice and it was a sunny day so we went back, even though our first experience was underwhelming...slow service. But we figure it must have just been a bad hair day for them.
This time it was HORRENDOUS! We were not acknowledged. Had to ask if we could sit down. Then waited for the waiter to come and when he finally did he acted as if we were annoying him. His hair long hair was stringy and greasy and he behaved as if he'd been up all night (and this was NOT a young kid). We ordered drinks and food. After waiting a full 15 minutes...we got our drinks.
We'd ordered bread and olive oil. After 40 minutes no bread; my friend asked if we could get our bread (let's not even talk about getting the food we'd ordered that had to actually be cooked). The waiter told us that there were other people waiting in front of us for bread. I asked why it took so long and the waiter made a comment about the ineptitude of the kitchen staff. I said I'd be happy to talk with them and he said he'd like to see that. I started to go inside and he said to wait, he would check. He didn't come back....another 15 minutes passed.
So we'd finished our drinks and decided we'd had enough. We put money on the table for the drinks and were walking out. It had been more than an hour since we'd gotten there. As we were leaving the waiter was coming around the corner with our bread...FINALLY. But JUST THE BREAD, not our food.
He asked if we were leaving and we said yes. He huffed and puffed and made a big production out of throwing our bread dramatically into the trash can. He told us to leave and never to come back. I told him that that wouldn't be a problem and I also said that I would make sure to let people know about the service we received and he remarked. "Heh...Look around, we have plenty of people here. I don't really care who you tell."
