great place!. planned a birthday party stop for food and drinks and it was a wonderful experience. First, I'd like to say that our waitress, Anna, went above and beyond to accommodate us. She was attentive, friendly, and even split our check 5 ways when she saw us stuggling to split it ourselves. I called a couple of times to make sure there would be space for 10 and they were very kind each time I called. Now for the food. Everyone was happy with what they ordered, and I heard raves about the spareribs and the burgers. The prices are great. The drinks quite good as well. Thanks again Anna!
My Favorite Happy Hour. This is my favorite place to go to Happy Hour. I love to sit outside here in the summer. Watching all the Clinton bicyclists running stop signs and almost getting ran over by cars at the corner during rush hour can be very exciting. It's a great place to people watch too. I love the Happy Hour food and drink specials. They have a beautiful back patio. Dinner there is also yummy. I have been there many many times and with the exception of one occasion when it was very crowded I have pretty much always got prompt service. See you there!
Va Va Voom!. I'm in infrequently and haven't had a bad experience yet. The service last Saturday was very accomodating. the waiter with glasses and reddish hair was very personable and attentive. The prices are quite reasonable. He forgot part of the order but that was quickly rectified. I tipped generously. The table next to us was loud to the point of rudeness. But this is a bar....in America...domicile of the overpriveliged hipster.
Good food, great happy hour prices on food, TERRBILE bartender service complete with lots of attitude.. We live in the neighborhood and maybe end up at the Night Light once every 2-3 weeks. Great happy hour food pricing and good food all around. Terrible service and attitude last Saturday from the short haired guy behind the bar. When I asked why the jukebox was only playing 10 seconds of each song, I was informed, "because we have a DJ starting." What happened to customer service? What about something along the lines of, "I'm sorry, we must have forgotton to put a note on the jukebox" or, "what can I do to to make it up?" Instead, I get a blank look and then a snarky attitude ridden, "well, do you want your dollar back?" Well, it was more than a dollar and it wasn't the money, it was the attitude. On the way out, I made a rude comment, which I probably shouldn't have done, so him and his little entourage followed me out. Don't bother putting me on the 86 list, I won't be back.
Arrogance on Parade!. With as many places to go around town (even the places across the street are so much nicer)...why would I go back to a place where the wait staff and bar help are snippy and rude. Interesting art but often too dark to see it! Wayyyy too smoky. The patio is nice, but the service so s*cks!
Best bar to hang out at. I have been to this bar on numerous occasions, and it never disappoints. Reasons it rocks: comfortable, appealing atmosphere (with a neat outdoor porch and local artwork plastering the walls), truly excellent food (with prices that can't be beat during their 4 to 7pm happy hour), a decent beer selection on tap and tasty cocktails, friendly service (once we had to wait a long time for our food and the waitress brought us free crab and artichoke dip for the inconvenience), and a huge pile of board games to choose from when you just want to sit and hang with friends. Plus, interesting music is always playing in the background as evenings wind down. As far as chill bars go, this one is top-notch!
Menu looked good..
I will give them props for a delicious grilled butter lettuce salad. It was num.
However, the smoke was too thick for my tastes. That may appeal to others, however!
Sliders!.
The special the other night was sliders (cute little mini burgers) with BBQ sauce and bacon. YUM! They were to die for......
The regular sliders are fantastic as well. The happy hour items are always delicious - especially the mac & cheese and new house salad! Affordable and delicious.
Shill City, Baby!.
Honestly, I don't really care for the Nightlight one way or the other. Just another in the cookie-cutter mold of "hip" bars that the "creative class" of this burg visit. OK at times, obnoxious at many others. Best jukebox in Portland? I think not--unless your idea of "good" is the same lame indie rock, irony picks, and smattering of obvious country and hip-hop CD's that every other bar of the ilk has. If it is, lemming, then naturally, it's great!
Main reason to post has to be to support another's mention of the shill reviews on here. LAME!! For chrissakes, at least make it less obvious.
did you just write lemming?. I love this place! Those reviews on the staff being rude are way off base. I moved here a couple years ago, and not knowing anyone, went to the Nightlight and was welcomed warmely. I go there all the time, and while you can always find something wrong with every place, its definitely fun and cozy. Accusing a restaurant of "spitting" on your food with no proof is childish and I would guess you have these problems often at other bars/restaurants. I personally know several of the staff and I gaurantee that your wrong. Anyways, give it a shot. You can't beat the happy hour and the Mac n' Cheese is the best. (Although its more like a cheesy Rigatoni Alfredo). It does get crazy busy at times where I stay away but on the chill nights its great!
