Editorial Review for Urban Fondue – by Annamaria Pardini

In Short
A soaring wall of red swirling abstract art, offset by a softly lit black ceiling and shimmering golden carpet set a mood of relaxed opulence at this cozy eatery. High-backed ultra-suede booths and down-stuffed chairs host urban sophisticates and date-night duos. Mix-and-match entrees include a choice of meat, cooking broth and dipping sauces. Sweeten the palate with the ice cold cheesecake chunks and Grand Marnier-infused strawberries swirled in a rich chocolate fondue.

I took my partner there for her Birthday and had a great time. We had visited this restaurant once before in December and it was great as well. We went for happy hour in the connected bar, Bartini, before we had our dinner. A GREAT happy hour but hard to find seating. Our reservations were for 6:45. The dining area was packed and loud, but this only lasted about a half an hour. This is a long meal, seeing you cook everything yourself but that is part of the ambiance. Make sure you go with people you like talking to. The staff was attentive (thanks Sarah) and the food was perfect. If you get the "Fondue Experience", you can try lots of things for a reasonable price and the dessert is amazing. Overall, we can't wait to go back. It is a hip, fun place to go.

Pros: Variety, Ambience, Fun

Cons: Loud, Parking

I've been to a few fondue restaurants, in Portland and outside and this just wasn't very impressive. My main problem was the service!! It was a hot day (rare, but happens) in town, NO a/c... fine... but make sure to serve me a drink as soon as I sit down! It took at least 15 minutes for our waitress to bother to come over to our table at all, and we had a party of 10. Overall, the service just really soured our experience and was NOT impressive. The food was fine enough... but Melting was definitely better. I liked the vibe/decor of the place... but that doesn't make up for lack luster service! If you are going here, sitting outside for some cheese or chocolate fondue would probably be worth it. But I won't be back for a full dinner.

Pros: Good location, cool decor, good dessert fondue

Cons: SERVICE!!!!!!!! Main course was so-so.
