What People Are Saying About A Pizza Scholls

In Short – You won't notice the plain storefront or minimalist interior for the throngs of people waiting to dine on this celebrated gourmet pie. Couples, families and groups come from all over town for the crisp and chewy crust; the product of a 24-hour slow fermented dough and very hot oven. The star crust is judiciously topped with combinations of whole milk mozzarella, fresh garlic, and Viande meats. Traditional Caesar salad and house-made cannoli complete the meal.

I was so discouraged at the west coast pizza and how it differs from the East Coast, until My friend too my here.
Excellent! The crust is good, tasty chewy and not soggy like so many other places. The sauce is excellent, flavorful. And the cheese is great.
This place has the right stuff for great pizza. Too bad there were not more of this kind of pizza in Portland.
My definition of good pizza... You just had thanksgiving dinner and you are stuffed to the gills, you go out with your friends... they serve pizza... If you are too full, the pizza is not all that, if however you have room for a slice, it's great pizza!! :)
- Pros: Best pizza in portland!
- Cons: Long lines and wait
Apizza Scholls... not so great!

I don't get the obsession with this place. The crust is okay, the sauce is okay, the toppings are fresh but, what about the cheese? In my book, the cheese is essential to a good pizza. Along with a GOOD sauce and crust. They have none of these qualities. I was extremely disappointed by A Pizza Scholls. They do NOT produce the type of pizza that deserves any kind of wait. Escape From NY puts them to shame. I had to add salt to my pizza because they didn't add enough cheese to qualify for a "tasteful" pizza. Cheese, in my opinion... along with the crust and sauce, makes the pizza. BUT, the cheese is essential. I could hardly see the cheese on the pizza and we had to ask for some parmesan because they don't keep it on the tables. The ultimate call out was that they tell you they will take $2 off your order if you don't have cheese. BIG indication they are going to be chinzy on this!
In my opinion, they don't deserve the attention or the biz they are getting. The only thing I can say is that the wait staff was great and very attentive.
- Pros: Service was awesome!
- Cons: No cheese!!!

I've eaten at top places in Chicago and NY, and Apizza Scholls is my favorite.
It has a unique style that may not be for everyone. Some of my friends don't care for the chewy crust or the simplicity of toppings, but I think that is what makes it great. An unbelievable crust that is chewy and crispy and tangy and thin yet substantial...
The toppings are almost minimalistic, but I never mind because they are such high quality that it doesn't take loads of it to get great flavor. The goat-horn peppers... oh my god, how does one little red pepper have so much flavor?
It gets very busy, but we've rarely had to wait too long. The staff is helpful, maybe a little brusque, but who wouldn't be when you've got dozen's of tables clamoring for more?
Anyway... go there. Buy a bottle of wine, too, to awaken all the flavors of the tomatoe sauce... its worth it.
- Pros: The Best Pizza Ever
- Cons: The pizza isn't very good left over
