Fantastic Experience.
I found Green Apple Dental through Citysearch and I have to agree with all the positive reviews I found here. The staff is also friendly
and fun to joke with. The office itself is clean, nice and feels more like going to a house than a dentist's office. Dr. Bird is very friendly, really listens to all your concerns, and takes the time to explain everything to you. The prices were very inexpensive as well - which was a big concern for someone like me who does not have dental insurance.
I'm so happy to have found a great new dentist!

Hands down, best dentist in PDX.
Amazing place!! After going to a number of crack pot dentists when I first moved to Portland, Green Apple Dental was a fresh change. I
would recommend this office to anyone in a heartbeat for general dentistry. Thumbs up goes to how quickly I was able to get an appointment! I got an appointment a few days after I called! That's unheard of, most times it takes 2wks-a month after you call, so I was excited and impressed about that;)!
They are extremely professional, good with reminders, and all around helpful in explaining insurance, billing, etc. Their office is clean and nice. Also, they have weekend appointments!!
Otherwise, the cleanings are nicely done. They do not try to sell you on procedures you do not need. I've had multiple Dr.s over the year and have seen no difference in quality between them. I think Dr. Kang is extremely sensitive to making sure to select good people to staff his office.
If this is in your hood or you just plane hated your prior Dr. as I did, go here for a more positive experience.

Used to be warm and friendly, but now not so much.
When I first came here in 2006, Dr. Kang welcomed me into his office to introduce himself and chat a bit. The staff were friendly, and I
had a great experience. The techs are wonderful as are the front desk staff.
Once the place got larger and they opened a second location on 82nd St., the vibe changed. Dental techs seemed overwhelmed with work, and almost hesitated in asking me if I wanted a paraffin dip in order to save time. It was obvious that it just added more stress to their day!
On my last visit when the tech was done with the cleaning, she said, "Oh, Dr. Kang isn't here (whom I had an appt. with), he is in the new office now. Is it ok if you see a different doctor?" Well, no, I told her, it isn't but what choice to I really have now that I am sitting in the chair? I felt this was really unprofessional. Would it have been so difficult to call and let me know ahead of time I would be seeing someone new?
The new dentist was cold as ice and barely glanced at me or said much of anything. I haven't returned since.

mixed feelings.
i went in after reading many positive reviews...
the girls at the desk seemed nice, and the dental assistant was nice too, although i was a little scared of the xray machine.. i just don't like being exposed to them.. but i think they accept xrays from your previous dentists, so that's nice..
the hand spa thing was just a little weird, but i understand what they were trying to do.. cause i was nervous, and it did its job of calming me down..
i didn't take the ipod while waiting for dr. bird(?) because i didn't think it would take that long.. but that was a mistake, i ended up sitting on the chair, looking at the clock next to me for 40 minutes.. just waiting....
while scheduling the appointment the week earlier, i told the girl at the desk that i was in severe pain and that that's the reason why i called in the first place... i wish she would've told me that during this appointment that we wouldn't get anything done.. just the x-rays and confirming that i have cavities... or i wouldn't have been so excited to finally eat something solid.
anyway, the dr. showed up, and looked at my teeth, told me i had a grinding problem, had a few cavities.. and my wisdom teeth were growing... i told him i was in pain... and then the nice dental assistant told me the girl at the desk will schedule the next appointment/ figure out the treatment plans...
so i went, and she just told me how much i owed for the appointment and xray supplies with insurance, and that the dr. would call me to figure out the next step. it came out to be over a hundred dollars, which seemed funny because when i was walking out, the advertisement next to the door said $19 for new customers x ray and appointment...
i just don't know why she didn't take the step to tell me about the special.. i wouldn't have even known about it if i didn't see the sign.
i waited the whole day, and no call. my teeth are still in pain, and the next day i had to call them, asking to schedule me again.
i asked the girl at the desk about the 19 dollar special, and she said she would give it to me, which was nice... but i don't know why she wouldn't just do that in the first place.. it's cheaper without the insurance than it is with, if i were her i would try to give the customer the best price...
and the girl at the desk told me that the doctor will call me today.. and that he got done late yesterday at 8, and that's why he didn't call.. but my teeth hurt really bad, and i would've appreciated scheduling to get my teeth fixed asap...
i guess he thought i shouldn't be in so much pain, and that i could wait.. anyway he called and apologized and told me what was going on..
then i had to call the girl at the desk one more time, and she sounded really hesitant to put me in schedule because i haven't paid yet. once i said dr. bird said it was fine, and that i would go in the next day to pay for the membership and half down my next appointment, she sounded more than happy to fill me in......
dr. bird seems like a nice dentist.. but the girl at the desk just makes me feel unsure about the clinic..

Thank you for having the Christmas Eve care clinic.. Thank you for having your dental clinic open on Christmas Eve. I heard about your free dental care clinic from a friend and almost couldn't believe it. The perfection of going to get a free cleaning and not having to miss out on work was a good ending to a tough year. I had lost my job earlier this year because of cut backs and my new position did not have any insurance at all. My teeth are in "ok" pretty good standing but I do worry about them a lot. I do appreciate you having a special day to help people out when times are tough. I am telling all of my co-workers about this and thanks again. View Less … View More
