Pala's is Cool. This was the second stop with my lady friend on New Year?s Eve, showing up at Pala?s around 10pm. It was pretty much dead when we arrived but it was soon hopping by 11pm. I don?t think it is as small as many people make it out to be; the place is no Crystal Ballroom but there?s plenty of room at the bar and on the dance floor, especially at a place for techno which isn?t THAT popular in Portland. My biggest criticism of Pala is the fact that the beer and mixed drinks were all of average price. [I didn?t try any of the food.] Otherwise, the crowd was a nice mix of people 20?s to 40?s, the staff from the doormen to the bartenders were great, and the DJ?s were the best DJ?s I?ve heard in Portland in a looong time. True, their sound system isn?t the greatest in the world, but it got the job done alright. Pala is in fact a suitable replacement for Ohm, as many people have said. I regret that I haven?t come here sooner.
PALA FASHION LOUNGE....YES PLEASE. I have been to Pala on numerous occassions. The service and music is always great. This is your not everyday place in the Portland night life scene. There are no drunken just turned 21ers here, no hip hop/top 40's (EVER!), no drama. If you are looking for great local electronic djs that have the talent to make you wanna dance all night long, this is the place to be. Not to mention the food is really great with something on the menu for everyone and the bartenders are the nicest in Portland. Bottomline check it out.
Great music, awesome food, great bar staff!.
This feels like Ohm used to. It's just, well, Portland.
Great music, without the posers. The wait staff knows my name and my drink.
The Kobe beef burger is the most awesome-licious burger ever.
A couple good DJs, not a lot of people dancing.
Good electronica, Quick service cuz it wasn't that crowded, Not a lot of people dancing, interesting crowd, $5 cover not bad...
2 flat screens: 1 was playing a slide show of Burning Man (very cool), the other was playing the fashion channel which normally wouldn't be that interesting but it was lingerie day, my buddies and I were entertained for a while
With more people and more dancing which I think was coming the later it got, it would have gotten a higher rating
Good music & drinks. I just moved to oldtown & recently have been exploring bars & clubs around here. I went to Pala on a friday night. The DJs were good but the sound quality was not so great. The bartender was friendly & people there were eclectic. However, a big turn-off though was having a TV there - which I think simply ruins the atmosphere.
I LOVE THIS PLACE. I've met the nicest people here staff & customers. The whole staff is wonderful! The door staff is courteous & friendly, coat check girl always greats me with a smile, and I absolutely love the bartenders, fast and friendly... sure sometimes they are swamped, but they seem to get to everyone quickly! Even the owners are great! Of course my favorite spot is on the dance floor itself, which can get a little crowded, but who wants to dance alone. I love that there are two stages to dance on when the floor gets filled. My only complaint is the parking; they have a very tiny lot, so you might as well look for on the street parking.
The best!!!. Been there so many times. Love the music, drinks, place and the people!
User review by julie_weygandt. The door man and bartenders were so nice and genuine. Great place to meet friends after work for drinks.
Pala has left a bad taste.......
I have been to this club twice. Both times, the thing that impressed me the most was how genuine and friendly the doormen were. Normally, it's the other way around!
After waiting 20 minutes to get a drink on a semi-busy night. I had to acknowledge the bartender. Audio equipment NEEEDS upgraded! Music awesome, but sound quality sucked.
Won't be returning anytime soon to Pala.
Want good service, go here. Pala has a staff that won't quit. The bartenders are attentive and welcoming, assiting you with any cocktail of your desire. Even giving you a sample of a beer you never heard of. The waitress' seem genuinely happy to see that you came by, and make you feel comfortable, even if your indecisive about what to order. The doormen actually have a memory and will call you by name once introduced.
