In planning our wedding, we have been very careful to use local and earth-friendly businesses. I was really happy to find Zee Cakes - a local business that seemed to do beautiful work using organic ingredients. When we contacted Melinda about making our wedding cake, she said it would be no problem and saw no conflict. We continued to communicate about colors, style and other details. I was anxious to schedule a tasting of her work, but waited until after the holidays in consideration of her schedule. Since she never contacted us after the holidays, we called her and scheduled a date late in January to sample the cakes. She called my fiancé one business day before the tasting to cancel and let us know she could not bake the cake for the wedding! She said she had another wedding that weekend. Apparently this client's request was made after our communication, since she said she had no conflict with our date. I have e-mailed her for clarification and have not heard back. I will be sure to let those I have referred to Zee Cakes know that she has left us in the lurch less than two months before our wedding. I only wish I had read the reviews on this site to see she has left others hanging.

As Zee cakes came highly recommended from several friends and acquaintances, my fiance and I went ahead and "booked" her services for baking our wedding cake verbally, prior to our tasting, with the intent of bringing a monetary deposit at that time. A call to confirm the day of the tasting resulted in my leaving a voicemail. She never called back to confirm, nor did she arrive at our scheduled time/place for the tasting. Needless to say, we were very disappointed. Not only do we have to find another baker on short notice, but it likely won't be the same quality we were so anticipating. I hate to give a "0" rating to a local small business which came so highly recommended, but missing an appointment with no call (or response to a reminder) is inexcusible.
