Liked this place until they said. Liked this place until they said "Happy hour is one credit card only" â?¦and they told us only when it was time to pay. None of us had cash so we got stuck paying and having to go ask our friends for the their share later... They can't split the payment between two credit cards? really?? Convenient for them but a pain for their customersâ?¦and why don't they say so up front?â?¦ before we are sitting there and having to decide who get stuck with the whole billâ?¦ This was really rude and for what, so the waiter saves a few min. charging 2 cards. Not the waiter's fault but we Won't be back...
BLT and thats it. The BLT cocktail is all I am going to say. If you haven't tried it I wont be able to aptly describe it to you anyway. Just run down there and try one to give your taste buds an experience they will relish for years to come.

this was truly a great experience. I have had great experiences before, but this really was special. My friends and I started the evening off a club down the street and soon made our way over to the Gilt Club
But to be honest, I've had the Gilt club on my "dining stalk list" list for some time now. I had always driven by and been very intrigued by the place. What exactly was going on behind those curtains? I've read reviews and heard first-hand recommendations for the restaurant, I even went to the website to inspect the menu and read all the employee profiles (which were hilarious by the way, even though they made me feel kind of like a creeper). I decided to commence my Gilt Club stalkery by actually going this last weekend with a few of the girls.
I made reservations for an early dinner as we were heading off to an event afterward, and was extrememly glad I did as the place was completely packed to the brim. The second I walked through the door I was greeted by the owner Jamie, who very politely looked my reservation up and asked me if I'd like to be seated before the rest of my party arrived. Plus he was pretty hot, so right off the bat the place earned a star just for being smart enough to put the eye candy in the front of house where it belongs.
After we were all seated the waitress promptly gave us menus and allowed us time to peruse the drink menu before asking for our order which I greatly appreciate. Being in your twenties is kind of like automatically being an aspiring alcoholic. If it's put in front of you, you're probably going to drink it, but if you have time to plan your libatious debachery things usually end better all around.
I was craving St. Germaine but didn't see it on the menu anywhere. Our waitress went out of her way to see if the bartender had it and would make me something containing it. Unfortunately, they didn't have it but they did whip me up a fantastic Bee's Knees cocktail, which was the most comparable thing, and it was spectacular. My first went down pleasantly swift, and my second was there just in time for the main course. I also appreciated the mismatched vintage stemware that my drinks were served in; it was a cute touch. I tried one of my friend's cocktails as well, The Sauvie Island Blackberry Press, and it was very good also.
We decided to start with the house-made bread to soak up our first round of drinks. It was topped with a hearty dose of rosemary, which i love, and the spread that accompanied it was both mysterious and delicious. For the main course I ordered the Painted Hills Hanger Steak, which was perfectly prepared and included oxtail, potatoes, a smoked onion relish and the most delicious wild mushrooms I've had in quite some time. Both of my friends ordered the Painted Hills Burger, which they both agreed was very good.
We wrapped up our meal by sharing the Oregon Pear Strudel with Chesnut Honey Ice Cream. To be honest it was only ok. The strudel tasted like something you could buy pre-made in the freezer and bake yourself at home. It was good, don't get me wrong, but there was nothing about it that made it extrordinary. I wasn't too disappointed though as the rest of our meal as well as service had been so stellar throughout the evening.
To cap off a great night at the Gilt Club I was very happy when we recieved our bill. After 6 cocktails, an appetizer, 3 main courses and a dessert, our bill was just barely over $100. Plus we had a $30 Groupon to widdle it down even further to around $70. Even so, I would have gladly paid the original amount had we not had the coupon, as the combination of food and service made the bill extremely fair.
I will definitely come back soon for dinner, and maybe even stop back in for a cocktail hour at the bar. Plus, I can now take this restaurant off my "dining stalk list" and put it on my favorites list. This place absolutely deserves 5 stars.
After reading many favorable reviews about The Gilt Club we decided to give it a try. Before making reservations, I checked out the menu on line and was surprised at how many selections were available.
My husband and I had dinner around 8:00 and the place looked a little empty. But by the time we left, it had really filled up.
We started with the Manilla clams w/rabitt sausage and the house homemade bread. It was amazing! The clams were tender, and the broth, along with the rabbit sausage added another delicious layer.
For the entre I had the scallops, which were prepared perfectly, and my husband had the pastrami NY strip steak, which he also enjoyed. The service was fabulous and the server casual and chic. We have put The Gilt Club on our "Romantic Date Nite List".
BTW, the dessert menu looked amazing and the presentation of it in a frame was tres cool, but we were too stuffed to eat another bite. It is the type of place where I would not expect to find children, so you know the evening will be a quite plesant one :)

had us at the first bite. YES,YES, YES! Had thought about trying this restaurant since it opened, sorry it took so long to get there....last night's dinner shared with a couple of friends was perfection! Started out with good feelings with the very helpful & kind response when I made the reservation...asked about noise levels(husband has a hearing problem, and there are too many places with intolerable noise levels that became a one-night stand, no matter how good the food was). Throughout the meal, our server was a delight, helpful & attentive without hovering, fun, and his suggestions were right on. That was a bonus for sure, but the amazing food was the star....it was hard to choose, but we opted for five appetizers(elk tartare, foie gras torchon, duck egg with fonduta, salt cod fritters, walnut bread)three small plates/charcuterie(wild boar nuggets,rabbit & pork mortadella, pork explosion)one main(chitarra pasta with wild mushrooms), and for dessert, the oil & chocolate & coffee pot de creme. EVERYTHING was toe-curling delicious and beautifully plated, with some surprising combinations of flavors that really worked. From the first eye-rolling bite of the foie gras torchon to fighting over the last morsels of the desserts, it was clear that this was one of the best dining experiences we've had in ages, and not just in Portland. Willamette Week and Oregonian dining guides, this should be a major contender for the next 'Restaurant of the Year" award!!!!!
Great food, cocktails, atmosphere, and service!. I was planning a birthday part for my wife and 12 friends. Jamie (the owner) could not have been more accommodating in helping plan a great menu, select wine in my price range, and create a special birthday cake. He even offered to print custom menus with photos provided by me. When we got there, everything was as promised and our server, Josh, was great. Friendly, attentive, and always one step ahead of our needs. All in all, a fantastic experience and we will definitely go back. I recommend The Gilt Club to anyone looking for creative cocktails, a cool dinner spot, or getting together with a group of friends.
love this lounge. i love the mood of this restaurant. it feels like an old 1920's speak easy or something. very romantic is a period-film way. they have a great menu that they serve all night, and they give restaurant industry people a late night discount!
GREAT DRINKS, FOOD AND ATMOSPHERE!. I had my wife's 30th Birthday dinner here for 18 of us and it was incredible. The owner had planned everything out with me ahead of time including a special menu and we walked in and just enjoyed ourselves. With a very creative food and drink menu Gilt Club is a must if you live in or are visiting Portland.
Best Iced Spanish Coffees. Best Iced Spanish Coffees! Enough said. Food is good as well and great atmosphere inside and sitting outside during the summer is great.
Great Happy Hour, Staff, Atmoshpere, Unexpected location. I host a monthy artist networking group and the Gilt Club was suggested as a great venue to use. Well, I was IMpressed. Love the location! As I am from the NY/NJ area, we always love gems in off-the-beaten path areas. Anyone every been to that great diner-style highbrow on Gansevoort St. in the West Village!? Jamie, the proprietor was extremely welcoming and accomodating. The decor is lovely elegance with a fun loungey flair! All the things I look for when I want to hang out! The menu was very resonable and the Staff was down-to-earth and ontop of their game! And we unexpectedly completely packed the house! They handled it gracefully. It was a great time and I can't wait to visit again! If you have out-of-town guest, this is a great unassuming place to impress them with lil' ole' Portland! Or just for a fun night with friends. I think Jamie definitely (thankfully) brought some EC with him. Late night eats too! Total Bonus!
