Seriously Underwhelming. Loved the chalkboard walls in the bathroom, but that's about all I loved about this place. Bland food was served by humdrum staff and the drinks were sub-par.

There are plenty of great spots along Alberta that will wow you; avoid Mash Tun, however.

Good beer, cool place... I've been hearing about this place for a while, finally made it by the other night. After reading some of the other reviews I was a little apprehensive but I have to admit, I was pleasantly surpised. Hade an IPA and a Stout that were made in house, both of which were really tasty. The staff was friendly and even though they were pretty busy, service was good. Didn't get a chance to have any food, but the menu looked good. Will definitely be coming back to try some food and more beer.

Dirtiest Brewery I've Ever Smelled. I stopped by this neighborhood brew pub for a pint while waiting for the gf to finish in the shoe store around the corner. There were only a few customers, and I was disappointed at how long it took to get my beer, but it's Portland so you get used to slow service.

But you don't get used to the smell. The brewery door is right next to the seat I took at the bar, and every time an employee opened and closed the door I got smacked in the face with a smell like rotting garbage and death - which was grain rotting in the brewing equipment. You know, the equipment where the beer is brewed - as in the beer in my hand. As in the beer I left on the bar, because I'd rather be bored to tears in a shoe store than poison myself with something made in filth.

Downhill. Once upon a time my wife and I enjoyed this place. The service was consistently good and the food was reasonably priced. Wow. Down down down the hill it's rolled. My burger was overcooked, the beer had almost no flavor and my wife didn't get the salad she ordered. Oh right, and everything took forever. Thanks, but no thanks.

Don't bother with the beer. Wish there were half stars...

The food and service can be okay or horrible, depending, but the beer made on site is AWFUL. I asked the server which is the staff favorite and she said anything made elsewhere. Okay. Then I took a look through the window into the brewery and I get it. The rats probably don't eat off the floor in there. Grain and gunk staining the top of the tanks, cobwebs and rat crap on the floor. Hopefully the kitchen is a little cleaner.

This is my kind of bar.... I've been coming to The Mash Tun since the first month it opened, and what I liked the first time has only gotten better. The service is terrific. These people have fun and they are so fast and friendly, even when the place is packed out on Last Thursdays. Although the selection changes, there is always something on tap that I like and they have microbrews I wouldn't have heard about otherwise. Now that there is a full bar, I can bring my non-beer drinking friends and play free pool and songs on the jukebox. The food is pretty standard pub fare, burgers and sandwiches, but everything I've had is really good. One of my co-workers raves about all the veggie options, but I always go for the bacon myself. Basically this is the friendliest, low-key spot in the neighborhood. I disagree with the person who said it's a sports bar. That hasn't been my experience at all. See you at happy hour.

Good food, good beer, good service. And games!. I like the Mash Tun. Healthy, locally grown menu options, tastily prepared. Great beers, friendly service, never too crowded during happy hour. Mmm. And they have games!

Amazing Staff. I absolutely love the Mash Tun, not only is their food incredibly fresh but the staff is amazing. Kim and Tim are the best restraunt staff I've had wait on me in a long time, although Tim's a bit on the quiet side. It can get a bit croweded on the weekends as it is a semi-small place, and Tuesdays are always full because it is $2.50 pints of any of their six house beers, but it's entirely worth it. It's a really relaxed, casual bar and the pool, darts and juke box are all free.

Over priced schwill. The last time I went to The Mash Tun, i noticed that they started turning into a sports bar, further encouraging the gentrification of the Alberta neighborhood, as well as turning what used to be a nice neighborhood hang out into a jock/yuppie filled grunting match. I have received foul beer from this place a few times...what tasted like a lactic infection. Not to mention getting sick after eating there several times. There are far better bars to go to on Alberta that include friendly staff and better food for much more reasonable prices.

Great service and wonderful beer. Classic neighborhood bar feel.. I love this place, it's such the neighborhood bar. Perfect beer, great food, and Anne and Kim are the cutest bartenders on Alberta! They always make you feel at home. Free pool and free jukebox are hard to beat. Definitely put it on your list of places to visit if you like great beer.
