Editorial Review for Iorio Restaurant – by Ivy Manning

In Short
This cozy spot on Hawthorne is made welcoming with crimson walls, exposed beams and antique photos on the wall. The efficient staff guides you through the seasonal menu and daily specials, such as butternut squash tortellini with fried pumpkin. An eclectic mix of informal food like homemade pizzas and panini are combined with more upscale fare like gnocchi with porcini cream sauce and seared duck breast on an herbed risotto cake with rhubarb compote.

I am trying to exactly understand why I did not fall in love with Iorio last night during my first visit. The food was very good but was a bit dissapointed to see that no bread was served, wine came in a very short glass, and that service looked disorganized. I also think that the dining room setup is not optimized for couples; only one table next by the window seemed very attractive place to sit and enjoy a diner for two. With the diversity of restaurants we have here in Portland, we are less than likely to spend another diner in this establishment. Lucy's table still owns my heart.

I've been to Iorio twice. First as a romantic date. Second as a business dinner. Same server both times, who was discreet the second time about the romantic date. Don't know who she is, but cute and blonde. Amazing food. Great ambiance. Great service. mpeccable customer service...I'm salivating just thinking about that. I highly recommend crossing the river for this place. I will return over and over.

Pros: Great service, food and ambiance. Parking.

Cons: NONE
