TERRIBLE!. A group of 12 happy hour seekers showed up at Bettie Ford's a little before 5:00pm on 7/2/08. We would've had a reservation but they're mailbox was full the entire week and a half prior to our arrival date, and after several attempted phone calls no one answered. We waited outside for 25 minutes before someone actually came to the door to let us know what was going on. His excuse for not opening the door was that they were waiting for their food order to show up! Are you kidding me? Mind you it was over 90 degrees outside and he didn't even offer to let us in for a cold beverage. When we asked him for an update on when they thought they would open he said "Dude, don't get mad at me. I just work here." Seriously, it's going to take an act of God for any one of us to go back there, let alone recommend this place to any one we know. We walked around the corner to Aura and had AWESOME service and enjoyed killer drinks and food on their happy hour menu. Go there instead!
NEVER AGAIN!. We were expecting to see 80's-type Hollywood has-beens sucking away at their rehab-forbidden cocktails and laughing as though they were being naughty and getting away with something. Too painful to enjoy.
I'd think this place was cool if I were like twelve years old. What a boring place to go. Drinks are plain, service is plain, wow talk about hype! This place is so lame.
Great time, Table Service Worth it!!. My friends and I had a great time here!!! we were celebrating a bachelorette party and couldn't have asked for a better table, server, music, etc. We booked a vip booth (the one overlooking the dancefloor). We pretty much stayed up there the whole night. our server was fabulous, extremely attentive and made sure that people didn't sneak into our area (unless we wanted them to!). I live in LA and it's definitely not Les deux or Area but i think it works for portland and for what you pay (next to nothing) I wasn't expecting to see the cast of the Hills there. We were not disappointed! I would suggest it for anyone with a large group looking to drink, dance, and have fun!
BAD DRINKS, AVOID ALWAYS, CRASS SECURITY, HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE, WACK SONG SELECTION. First Off, naming your bar after a detox center might sound cool... but it's not. It oozes of desperation like a suburb kid gorging on beer to impress equally lost bourgeoise sheep just to end up downtown getting his wallet stolen and shoes written on by someone with a brain. In fact, the product provided by this wannabe club needs some rehab quick. Absolutely no authentic club feel here at all... it's totally forced and sloppy. Overbearing security who are desperately waiting to catch a beat down from customers that know better. Seriously, the secret service style earpieces are so not necessary!!! Your club isn't that big. Girl with the clipboard... lose it cause you look like a fool. Again, is this place always resembling a suburban high school dance or is it just when it's open for business. The place smelled like an old woman and it's the dudes. Guess that's not the bars fault, but they do need better ventilation cause it smells like a bathroom. As for the drinks: overpriced, uninventive, and forgettable. If you took your worst BOWEL MOVEMENT and put it in a glass, you would have a better drink than the one these d-bags put together. Bettie Ford's drinks fail, bottom line. I would rather watch you make bad drinks fast than assume I'm so desperate for entertainment that watching you throw a glass around your back will make the deplorable libations, and the wait, worth my while. Cause it's not dude and you're a munch. Less fraternizing with yourself and more drink making and serving!!! Oh yeah, making people wait in line to get into a club that is half-full is shameful, especially since your regular crowd encompasses all the imbeciles that PDX can muster. The dj, Evil One... way up in that dj booth he looks sad and enslaved playing music that is so trite that I would be really surprised if dude is truly happy. The epitome of price gouging. All I can really say to sum this up: Bettie Ford Lounge is a disgrace to club culture and Portland.
Bad Bouncers!!. On feb 17 2008 i was invited vip to Bettie Ford Lounge club in portland from a phone call from the club who invited us .The night started off fine, we were celebrating my girlfriends birthday party there,we had a couple of drink and where laughing and joking with each other,Around the end of the night the bouncer came up to me in the vip room (the one they invited us to...)and said i was to intoxicated after i have done nothing to no one in any harm ,way, shape or form:(.Then he started physical removing me,i then told him to take his arm off of me , because i will escort my own self out... as soon as i said that he through me on the ground and called the seven other bouncer who came over and choked me and stepped on my knee cap and sprained my ankle oh ya i have picture of my abuse.then druge me out side because i couldnt walk from my injury and through me face down on the concrete which i have pic of and when i get them i we post them.To the owner of this buisness i to own a buisness and a couple of my friends own bars next to u and i want to let u know ur employees are a reflection of u and what u represent. On that note if u want to go to get beat up by bouncers go to bettie ford longe in portland. Oh ya i will be seeking legal action on this manner so hopefully i will be able to talk to the owner about this matter and get an answer for what took place, and also ur night club manager is most likely the problem so i would reorganized what he started.
Absolutely the WORST PLACE IN PORTLAND. The social dynamics of this place are like a cross-section of a cross-section of a cross-section of our society; predominantly white suburban kids (ages 16-23 yrs of age) listening to rap music, acting hard, getting drunk and degrading the low-self esteem women (who seem to come in droves). On an occasional off-nite there will be no fights. But if you're lucky, you may get to see 1,2, and maybe even 3 scuffles. The best part is watching the overly egotistic bouncers use a guys head to open the door. That's a classic! So if you're in the mood for fights, drunk obnoxious losers and scanks - THIS IS YOUR PLACE!
only go here if you like MTV culture. I should have listened to the reviews before going to this place, but it was my friend's birthday and her boyfriend had promised us a VIP table and free drinks all night (he knew someone who worked there). We waited in the VIP line at the door and almost didn't get in because we didn't know the last name of the guy who'd made the reservations. Snotty, snotty snotty door woman. Once we got in, we met another pretentious, snotty door guy. After checking out the clientele (who, granted, have their role in society, just like everyone) and being informed that our expensive drinks would have to be purchased (after wading through the 21-year old MTV wannabes who packed the place), I thought, do I really want to give my business to this rude, rude bar? Sorry, sweetie, I know it's your birthday but let's go somewhere else!
The Bouncers are out of control here, horrible treatment!. My two girlfriends and I went to this club for the first time about three weeks ago, and the experience was relevant to a H.S. dance. When we first got there, the bouncer starred at my ID for (not exaggerating) a good five minutes. It was ridiculous. Can you not read? They take themselves way too seriously. Once we get in there, the music is okay but once we went to the bathroom the floor was sopping wet and absolutely disgusting. So about after an hour of dancing and ONE DRINK, a bouncer walks up to me and says," i have to escort you out, you are showing signs of over intoxication." I said,"excuse me?, please explain!" Once i snapped at him, he realized I wasn't drunk and apologized, it was so stupid. but then he presumed to insist that that my friend was too drunk! We both just started laughing and apologized to the bouncers that their jobs are so slow and they have nothing else to do. (mind you this was about 25 mins till the bar was about to close) As we started to gladly leave, we meet up with our third girlfriend who is ALSO being talked to by a bouncer! (as were two other club goers) , the bouncer said to her that she had to leave for using violence. She shoved a guy away for pinching her butt! The bouncer didn't even care once my g/f said that to him! WTF? This place was an absolute joke. They were so rude, unintelligent, and just clueless. Don't waste the $10.00 cover on this place. The bouncers need a reality check, not a paycheck.
Best beer battered onion rings and springrolls and over all good clean cut crowd on saturdays.
I've been to Bettie Ford often enough to become a regular now to know its a place I feel comfortable in. The Fights are about once a weekend rather than every 15 minutes in most other night clubs or at least the ones i've notice. The crowd is less prissy than Aura's and less shady than Solo's. The dance floor is small, but the lower VIP and Upper VIP areas overlook it. The Upper Vip has its own bar on occassion and i've seen a server in the lower vip that wades through the very busy crowds for you. The strict dress code keeps the yoyos out.
The down falls to Bettie ford is the loud music in the front and the temperature can be quite sweltering in the closed areas. The bathrooms are from St. Elmos Fire and in need of a remodel from the long forgotten Stephanos days and could use more inspections through the night.
As to the fights mentioned above they seem questionable at best because the bouncers i know of that work there are open hand fighters. As the saying goes those who whine the most...
Overall its one of the better clubs in the metro area and it is a place I will keep going to.
