In Short
The large outdoor firewood rack in the entrance is well-stocked to stoke the glowing fires of the pizza oven and rotisserie, both visible through the open kitchen. Hickory paneled pillars doubling as coat racks and a vaulted fir ceiling add to the alpine lodge esthetic. Well-heeled families and smartly dressed foursomes feast on specialties like prosciutto with grilled Bosc pears, chewy-crusted pizzas and rotisserie pork ribs. Even the pear-apple crisp is fresh from the oven.

Friendly service. Unclear menu - it is hard to determine where the appetizers are, what is considered an entree - fancy names with no descriptions. I am an experienced restaurant-goer and the menu seemed pretentious to me. The salad mista - their house salad - was served with a bottle of olive oil and a bottle of vinegar, and bowls of salt and pepper. I would prefer a light, chef crafted vinaigrette to the self-serve concept. It's hard to get a completely balanced mouthful of salad. My ravioli left me starving. The large bowl contained a dozen grape sized raviolis in a small amount of sauce. The flavor was fine, but for $14.00 I certainly expected more. Disappointing experience - we left hungry and after spending over $75.00

I usually think the food is quite good at Nostrana. Tonight I was disappointed. Under "Fish Fridays" they had "Pan-fried Razor Clams". Note the plural on the clams. The dish was advertised as clamS with an orange/fennel salad for $15. I am perfectly happy with a small dish and with a dish that does not include potatoes or rice as a cheap filler. However, I was shocked when my plate arrived with a small clump of orange salad and one fried clam. For $15. It was tasty, but I couldn't get over the distinct feeling of being mislead and ripped off. Very disappointing. Too many choices in Portland to suffer such! Nostrana - please get a clue!
Pros: Food is good
Cons: Overpriced, and even if it's "italian" they need to have wine by the glass from the PNW
