Fantastic Experiance all around! – The experience was fabulous from the moment we entered to the time we left. We sat out on the deck which was just perfect for a warm night. Everyone ordered different items from the menu and ended up sharing each dinner because everything tasted superb. A hidden treasure in Lake Oswego!!
Excellent Meal – We took our mom here for Mother's Day. I was really impressed with the service and food. I had Halibut in a wonderful sauce. The fish was cooked to perfection! Several others ordered the Filet, Lamb and Veal. All were equally happy with their choices. The server recommended some great wine and was very attentive to our needs. This is a great little find in Lake Oswego. Check them out sometime!
Disgruntled Chef? – Dont be fooled by the review below. The last review was obviously written by someone who knows a little too much info about the on goings of Genia's Restaurant (possibly a disgruntled employee???). I've had the pleasure of eating at the restaurant since it opened and have only good things to say about the owner. It's sad to see people stooping to this level. Shame on you!
Owners blew out – Word on the street is that the owner lost control when a server dropped a pitcher and fired everyone, accused them of everything but murder and hired back the profanity screaming chef. I'm not going back!
One of the clients that was in the place at the time told me it was the worst she had ever seen from an owner. I also heard that the chef had to work to clean that place up and make changes to kitchen and restaurant area, it was a toxic breeding ground, call the health board.
What does decor have to do with it? – We ate at Genia's several weeks ago. I have eaten there prior to the current chef so obviously the previous review was written by a friend of the last chef that screamed obscenities while we dined. We loved the trout and the steak, however, I'd have preferred a little more "french" to the sauces than broth and we so enjoy looking for fabulous desserts which they do not have in abundance. The chef came out of the kitchen and talked to the patrons which everyone enjoyed and she was really interested in what they'd like to see on the menu. The wines were perfectly pared and the presentation very nice. We are looking forward to the veranda opening up to offer a light and airy atmosphere and the chef bringing fresh summer foods to the table
Avoid this train wreck – Let me first start off by saying that I liked the previous decor due it's romantic ambiance and cozy feel. The new design is ok, but seems to be a bit colder and impersonal. I do not understand the reason as to why it was changed. I recently read on oregonlive that the new chef is a recently bailed out corporate chef of the now defunct Hayden Enterprises Inc. The fish I had was swimming in an off tasting broth, it honestly tasted like it was going bad. The service was sub par and the place was completely empty (how can you guarantee a fresh product). I do not understand how this restaurant stays in buisness. The last three reviews are obviously the same person with similar literary styles and at best acquaintances of the management. I give this restaurant less than a year before it shuts down. I have been a faithful customer here for the last year and can tell you that I will not be returning. There is good food to be found in Lake Oswego, it is certainly not found at Genia's however.
Fabulous dining experience! – Chef Amy does a great job: dishes that are delicious, not overwhelming (some chefs overdo it), uses fresh, high quality ingredients, and I am STILL dreaming about her huckleberry dessert! I had a wonderful black cod that was perfectly prepared in a tomato based broth: so flavorful, yet light, with a few clams and a margueza sausage. YUM! My husband had short ribs and the bone easily slid right out, cleanly! I tasted it and it was wonderful! I love the attention to detail (even the bathroom had a great hand lotion!) from the food to the atmosphere. The dining rooms are intimate and elegant, and the service was excellent. We are foodies and this is one of our new favorite restaurants. Amy really knows what she is doing in the kitchen, and she also takes the time to make you feel so welcome. I can't wait to go back; we'll be bringing friends! Give this place a try.
Wow. The best duck I have ever had!!! – Chef Amy is the real deal. Great food, presentation, and a welcoming friendly attitude. How refreshing!!! Only a few weeks in the kitchen at Genia's and she has created what is sure to be a new favorite for the Portland restaurant fan. I had the Red Orange Duck. The breast was prepared a perfect medium rare as ordered. The leg quarter was moist, crispy, and not at all oily. The ambiance is comfortably elegant. We had the perfect evening with friends. As a former restaurant owner I get excited to see superb food service artfully crafted into a thing of beauty. I can't wait to go back!
A five star secret! Genias is a – Chef Amy Jermain hits a home run with her Starters including the Trout Salad with Latkes and Farmer's Fresh Greens. We just thought we were experiencing a bit of culinary heaven but were taken to a new plateau when I put the first bite of Duck in my mouth. Oh my gosh! The best duck breast cooked medium rare. Perfect.. The Buffalo Short Ribs fell off the bone in their rich and savory sauce. Dessert was absolutely over the top. Pistachio Brittle for those who are a little full, the Chocolate Covered Date filled with fromage a must try and a special Huckleberry delight. This two year old restaurant is a Foodies dream come true. A must try. Amazing prices and fabulous wine list. Allie, our server is one of a kind frequently checking on us and made us feel welcomed.. Wonderful service. Unbelievably priced menu. A MUST TRY. I am a Chef and previous restaurant owner who is always looking for that great new place for my taste buds to dance and I have found my dance floor at Genias in Lake Oswego!
Very good, but not 5 star – I've eaten at Genia twice before and twice after they've found their new chef. The food has taken a remarkable turn for the better since the change. We dined on Valentine's Day. I think the restaurant is understaffed for high volume occasions. The waiter forgot about us, and didn't acknowledge or apologize. The food was definitely a step down from our first experience. The chef has an interesting style ,presenting several of her dishes in a light broth, such as the ravioli and the fish dishes. She varied the ingredients, from first to second visit, though the result did not transcend itself. I definitely enjoy the food, but I'll not return on a holiday.
