This contender for Portland's longest brunch line serves an outstanding burger and chicken & waffles. Bring 5 friends and make a reservation to skip the wait!

Best known for its lines, I mean, its epic fried chicken, this beloved Burnside brunch destination also makes fantastic waffles—big golden yeasty slabs the size of hub caps, topped with slabs of bacon (aka the praline bacon waffle) and lots of whipped cream.

Amazing southern comfort food. I recommend their crispy fried buttermilk-battered chicken and their token mac and cheese. I am from OK so naturally this was amazing.

Good food, long waits. I've been to Screen Door for dinner twice and breakfast once. All meals were pretty good-- impressive enough to bring out of town guests. The drinks are especially unique and flavorful. The downside? It's almost always a longer wait and the service can be hit and miss.

YUM! YUM! YUM!. I LOVE the Screen Door! The long waits are redeemed by the amazingly fresh food, the more than courteous staff and a clean and comforting atmosphere! The breakfasts are to die for and the dinners fill you up just right!! I have eaten here with my children, with just myself and my husband and even in a large group, and every single time the service has been the same....PERFECT!

If you are looking for great breakfast, or a deliciously filling dinner, The Screen Door will provide!!

Wait was worth it. As a party of 2 on a Saturday night, we arrived at Screen Door ready for a wait. However, the wait for 2 was long compared to larger parties. Without noting this to the restaurant, they noticed how long we waited and made up for it. Our friendly server delivered our delicious food in minutes and the fabulous host checked on us multiple times to ensure we had a positive experience. We appreciated the extra effort, and it is the primary reason we will return. I typically go to the Pearl for dining so I loved the inexpensive pricing at Screen Door (most expensive item was $16). The decadent chocolate velvet cake and ice cream was a great way to end the night, yummy!

favorite southern food. I adore the Screen Door. The food is absolutely fantastic(this is coming from someone who lived in the south), and the portions are gigantic. I've gone there both for dates and in groups and all of my experiences have been great. The only bump in the road is the wait. They don't take reservations so you have to sit for about an hour on the weekends, but it's totally worth it. Just show up before you get hungry. :)

Great Comfort Food. This was my first visit and it was pretty great. Because they are usually so busy we arrived about 20 minutes before they opened and there was a fairly long line even then.

When seated it took about 15 minutes for our waitress to even take our drink order which was frustrating. The dinner menu was small with few vegetarian options and being a vegetarian that made it hard for me.

My boyfriend had the smoked BBQ brisket which he said was excellent! I however had the screen door plate. You can choose any three sides or anything from their local/organic menu or a combination. While this is a good way to try several different things, the combination of different flavors was a bit overwhelming. I did enjoy their creamy grits and their very tasty cornbread. And I would highly recommend their Scarlett O'Hara Number 2 cocktail!

Amazing southern food. The food is definitely good, the atmosphere fun and the wait not as bad as I had heard it would be... the hostess could have been friendlier, for sure.

Took the fam and loved it!. Found this restaurant through Citysearch and was very happy. Took my teens, wife and sister (who had just flown in) around 8pm and had no wait. Food was fun and different and excellent! We brought a lot of food home, sharing a meal would be a good idea. Probably more of a $$ for price, meals are around $15 a plate. Fun people watching too; I felt a long way from Beaverton. :)

One hint, place is on EAST Burnside between 23rd and 24th. I went the wrong direction at first and had to trek all the way across town but it was worth it.

Incredible Food Every Time. Don't be fooled by the impatient people who post negative comments about reservations, service, etc- This is not a large space, and the line is long BECAUSE THE FOOD IS OFF-THE-HOOK good. If you don't get there early then that's your problem. The food is constantly great and their unique menu items are one of a kind. So don't worry about anything else but the food- that's what really matters and it is incredible. My personal favorites are the pumpkin pancakes and buscuits and gravy from the breakfast menu. Good prices and drink selections as well.

RUDE RUDE RUDE!!!!!. I have been here multiple times for dinner and have been pleased. Breakfast? Don't bother!! I won't go back. We had a reservation for 10. We were told to get there by 9:00 AM sharp and to let them know we were all there. (they won't seat you unless the entire party is there). So, I arrived to a very long line. I went in front of the line to tell the hostess we were there. She was totally RUDE! Never smiled, never greeted us, and told me to get to the back of the line so as not to mess of the line formation. I wanted to leave right then, but our group decided to give it a go. We were seated a few minutes after 9:00 but were not served breakfast until 10:15. The waiter we had was awesome and made up for the horrible initial greeting. Do youself a favor and don't go for breakfast. NOT WORTH IT!! Too many other good restaurants with owners who are happy to have your business. Go there instead.
